Anyone that's done it. what did you all do for the rear crossmember move? Modify the original? and if so, how much fab was needed?

Did you do the job? What did you run into/learn?
everything is on hold right now. crazy spring around here. I have obtained another C body cross member to modify, I was going to do it from scratch and try to offer it to others but with zero interest doesn't make much sense. Come this fall I'll dive back into it.

I secured a second cross member to modify for my a500. Don't really plan to ever have a 727 back in it but c body cross members are very plentiful.

Thanks for the update.
I missed your ad. I'm not on the site every day. However, I might be interested in a cross member. Would need cost?
Link to your ad or original post offering x-member?

Finally getting around to the swap. Unfortunately I had Rotator Cuff surgery 2 months ago so need to recruit help only to get the reality slap. I totally didn't even think about torque converter bolt spacing difference between old/new. New flexplate on order. I'm guessing December will be when I really get a chance to attack the crossmember.

Little more progress. FYI I had Rotator cuff surgery in August....slowest recovery ever, friggin tape measure over my head feels like I'm benching 2 plates.

Anyway. There is a mount hole right above the crossmember on the tailshaft housing that I cut off, I'll probably take it down a bit more. There's more than 1/4" clearance but I can get more.

Right now the bottom of the crossmember is 3/16" lower than the trans mount so this will be pretty simple to weld a bracket on and get it finished up.

It's in! Interestingly enough. Originally with the 727 in there, my pinion/tailshaft angle was about .5 degrees off (Tailshaft high) right now I was able to bring it down a little to .1 degree off.

Very interesting project, I was wondering is the trans mount a stock piece, and if so is it stock to a 727 or to the 46rh? Or is it for something else?

ok Thanks for the info! Did you have to do anything to the trans tunnel or did the 46rh fit ok? Also how did you cut the bellhousing? That looks like it would have to be done at a machine shop??

Minimal tunnel massaging. Just a couple spots on the driver side. There's a few vids on how to cut the housing, and I did a video on some of the points the others seem to be missing.
