Thanks for the replies and suggestions regarding plating and dash. Here are a few pictures as it started it's journey to Minnesota. It's really a very nice solid car. I'm finding that parts are a tad more rare than hen's teeth for this model. I found a NOS right tail light lens, but the left one is proving to be much more difficult to source. I did find a used 95% perfect dash pad for $300, but it's going to have to be vinyl dyed because it's faded on top. Still, much better than the $1200 Just Dashes wants for their repop. With lead times of 3 months on bumper plating I think I may have to finish this over the Winter, but the body and paint work should be done by mid Summer, so I can drive it with the old chrome. The gas tank was out of the car when I got it, and it had been refurbished but the owner lost the filler neck in all the moving around. Does anyone know of a car in a junkyard somewhere that might have one?
It is even nicer than I thought it would be after seeing these photos. Very nice. Best bet for finding one of those filler necks is probably Big M Automotive. John is the proprieter - a really nice guy and easy to deal with.

Big M Automotive

The RD Autoline dashpad that I got for my 61 New Yorker (same pad) was about $600 just last year as I recall. My interior is red, and they matched it perfectly. Well worth it when you consider that it looks light years better than the puffy ones from Just Dashes at twice the cost. And RD Autoline's is 100% perfect.

I vote for the "Salmon" color like the four door New Yorker claims to be For Sale on another blog here on this FCBO site. That color with nice wide white walls would look sharp.

I love these cars. Congrats on the score. I'll be following the restore on this one

Thanks, I sent Big M an email with my parts needs.

Salmon is a bit too risky for me, but I would love to see it on someone else's car! Besides, it would break my collecting theme, so far all my classic cars but one are red:
65 Barracuda (white)
66 Pontiac Tempest convertible (red/white)
60 Buick LeSabre convertible (red/white)
54 Pontiac Chieftain wagon (red/white)

If you want a new dashpad, your best bet is clearly RD Autoline out of Sweden. Outstanding reproduction for half the money of Just Dashes, and it actually looks good too, unlike the latter. They are very easy to work with too. I got one from them and couldn't be more impressed.

Things have been progressing slowly on this wagon. The filler neck for the gas tank was missing, and it took almost 2 months to find one. The tank had been removed for repair and was out when I got the car. The filler neck was missing when I got it.

I was wondering if you have any decent solution for replacement of the molded vinyl wheel well covering in the cargo area? I found a decent ribbed rubber mat to replace the bed covering, but it appears that my only option to replace the faded and cracked wheel well covering is matching carpet.

Your help is much appreciated!

This is what I am dealing with. One side is fairly intact, the other side has most of the original covering missing. The rest of the interior (other than the dash pad) is excellent. I will take your advice and check into a good auto upholstery shop in this area for suggestions.

Welcome to the world of "forward look" parts scrounging. I know it's a 62 but a lot of those parts were carried over from previous year models. Makes locating C body parts seem like a "piece of cake".
Some parts for my 61 Fury took 3 years to locate.
Also, keep in mind, wide white walls went away on Mopars after 1961. 62 was the first year for the narrow stripe WW's.

The ribbed part of the vinyl looks like running board stock material.
Interesting thought. The vinyl is actually all one piece, glued onto the wheel well. The original color was a metallic tan like the rest of the interior, but these two panels faded to a blue/gray color and are quite brittle and toasty.

The car came with 4 radial tires, I think 2 are actually Winter tires. I would like to replace them with radials that look like the bias ply tires of the 60's with the 3/4" whitewalls. I know I have seen these "square shoulder" tires at shows, but never took note of who made them. Any suggestions?

I am of absolutely no use to you... but I love the wagon. Please keep the pictures coming.:thankyou:

If going to Iola and still looking for tires then,,,,,,call Coker and Lucas to see if they are attending....a few years ago I purchased a set of four for my '59 Imperial. They brought them there w/o any pre-payment, nor any sales tax or shipping. I looked at them that day and paid by credit card on the spot. Hey, it all adds up and you can put that savings towards something else.

P.S. Look at Lucas and Coker now and gave them enough notice to bring them to Iola.

I have a tail light lens, not sure which side, or where it is at this point.

Beautiful wagon!

Is the gas tank the only issue from it running?

The tank was refurbished, and I finally found a nice filler neck, so we installed it last week. The fuel pump looked new, but turned to be bad, so replaced that and it started right up. With the rust issues in the tank (and visible in the fuel filter(s) I replaced) I think the carb also needs a rebuild. The original Stromberg 2bb has been replaced by a Carter 2bb, and the tag is missing to find a rebuild kit for that. One thing after another..... When it was running I put it in gear but it wouldn't go, rear brakes seized up. After finding a wheel puller we found out that whomever had done a brake rebuild on it had pretty much slathered everything in there in axle grease, which had melted into the shoes causing them to glaze and seize to the drums. Next.....

Thanks for that info. I was planning on using the 3/4" whitewall.
