More work being done. I’ve started to cut out most of the old material from the old quarters and I’ve fitted the new one on very loosely. I decided to splice the new on in before the tail light buckets because there is a dent in the corner of one of the new panels and the other was also mis shaped and would fit a tail light correctly. The factory ones are nice and straight. Also trying to cut out the tail light bucket section requires tedious work to keep all the trunk gutter reinforcement in place. This way I have another section to help locate the new panel correctly. More to come.
Little bit of an update. I managed to save the inner wheelhouse from the donor car to use on my car. I decided not to “mini tub” the car currently because I can fit a wide enough tire in it currently. One day if I decide to go fill race I will back half the car and go full wheel tubs. Anyways the passenger side quart panel is welded on! I just have to make up two a filler pieces around the wheel well!
I undercoated the inside of the quarter panel while it was off and everything accessible. I also used weld through primer in all the places I was going to weld. More pictures and more to come.
I’ve slowly been picking away at the drivers side. Cut the old panel off and prepped the rocker area and the trunk extension for the new panel. And I couldn’t resist test fitting the new panel. Working on cleaning up the backside of the new panel. And welding in the inner wheel well. Also ordered a front suspension rebuild kit so that will be installed soon! I do plan to convert to disc brakes and I have a set of 73 New Yorker spindles to use but I was just looking and rotors are no longer available. So im looking into other avenues. Was hoping to keep the disc brake conversion cheap. Also found out that scarebird also went out of business…
I recieved my front end rebuild kit. So before I started putting it all together I wanted to add some reinforcing plates to the lca. I know firmfeel sold the plates, but ever since their website updated I don’t see them. So I made my own. Here’s the result.
Finished up the metal work in the wheel wells and in the trunk. Would’ve like to have had a bead roller to make my patch panels look better but I’m happy with how it turned out. Also installed my Calvert racing spring set up. And fabricated new rear mounts for the shackle sliders. Took quite a few measurements before ordering my wheels. The rears are 15x10 with 5.5” backspacing. Plenty of room on both sides with a 275/60 tire. Going to be starting on the roll cage in the coming weeks and tearing apart the 5.7 hemi I plan on using for this car.
Been picking away at the roll cage. Ended up buy a manual bender kit and converting it to air/hydraulic . Little bit of a learning curve but it’s coming along!
Have been very busy this summer. But still was able to pick away at the cage. Ended up purchasing a tig welder for at home and fully tig welded the cage! All wrapped up now! Also got the seats and mounts all dabbed up and ready to install. Just waiting until it finally goes back to the body shop very soon!
