My speedo cable finally gave up the ghost so I’m needing a new one. I keep finding conflicting OEM part #’s for it so I can’t decide where to find the correct cable. It’s a 65 without the auto-pilot.

Anyone know where I could get one?

Thx

Many listings will lump 65 C body speedo cables in with 66 - 68, which is incorrect.

65s have a very specific end that deals with the 65 transmission speedo pinion, and the later 66 - 68 cables do not fit.

This is the correct one - note the end with the rubber o-ring.

This one is INCORRECT - note the regular type end. WILL NOT WORK on a 65 transmission.

Here is an NOS 65 one - more expensive, and possibly no better than the one from VAN's in the first link, however, Bernbaum is a respected dealer in NOS Chrysler parts.

All speedo cables need proper lubrication prior to installation.

Can’t thank you enough Ross! You perfectly explained what I was running into. In fact that 2nd link you sent was a seller I had contacted and he told me it would fit but I had my doubts. Thanks again for all this info. Truly truly appreciated!

I just looked at both of the eBay links (Vans and Bernbaum) and even they list different OEM part numbers. No wonder this was so confusing.

Thanks again Ross!

There is a place in Colorado, Speedometer services USA. 888-907-6506. They made me a cable to connect the 65 727 to the speedo in my 57 Royal. I did have to send them the end for the transmission.

Really appreciate that Mike!

For what it’s worth I went ahead and ordered the one from Vans. I asked them first if they were confident it was the right one and they stated it was. As it turns out Bernbaum said their cable isn’t the correct one for the 65 New Yorker.
If the one from Vans isn’t it I believe the Mopar Mall guys have one that is correct. As best I can tell the Vans one looks like the mopar mall one. Fingers crossed

Careful with Mopar Mall, a lot of what they do is just source parts from other vendors and don't actually have stock of what they have listed on the website.

Found out after 2 weeks of no movement on a turn signal switch when they said the guy that they sourced them from couldn't get the spade connectors anymore and that they should mark it as out of stock on the website.

For anyone wondering why I did this:
Ebay listings disappear after a few months.
I currently have two 1965 C-bodies.
I am saving this thread for my future reference.

To anyone thinking 'those are selfish ulterior motives' - yes, that is correct.

So just a follow up… the one from Vans is exactly correct for the 65 New Yorker. Looks like the original cable in every way (except shinier lol). Thanks to all of you who chimed in on this thread. I know that some of you mentioned having one made using the old ending from the original cable. I’d be happy to mail anyone that wanted it the old original end (or even the whole cable if you want) if you would just pay for the shipping.

Thanks again to every one
