Old Man with a Hat
Moot point now that we're not buying the car.
The engine isn't twitching, so that's a good sign.
It sounds like possibly worn alternator bearings are making some constant and repetitive noise.
My hunch is that the PS pump is making the intermittent noise. One of my cars sounds similar.
I bought a shorty belt that will fit from crank to waterpump - so I can isolate each item independently with the engine running.
I have had done A-B-A with the 3 belts, swapping on and off, and the removal of the alt/water pump belt seems to consistently not make a difference.
The alternator and waterpump sound normal when listened with a long-handled screwdriver. Strangely, the PS pump does also.
When I swap the PS belt, sometimes the noise goes away - but sometimes not. I have surmised that simply stopping the rotation of the pump disturbs the situation.
Some days the noise is awful, some days barely noticeable.
I conclude that I need to swap the PS pump to see if the noise truly goes away.
But I fear I'd end up swapping on a faulty pump and just confuse myself further.
And, thru it all, I did the early evaluations with no fan, so the clutch hasn't been properly evaluated yet.
As for the trans leak - if it's coming from the input seal, that could be due to the TC not being seated fully during installation, which can wear out hte input bushing, the seal, and also the pump. Or it could just an old seal that got disturbed and made unhappy.
