FFS = "For F__k's Sake!" I'm not sure but I think that acronym predates the internet.

I just found a cheat sheet with lots of internet slang so you don't have to guess. Oddly, SMH isn't on there.

I've never heard of FFS! Growing up my Dad and everybody else always said, "For Christ Sakes", FCS. So now I'm totally confused?

The problem arose when there was a 140 character limit on text messages, so everything had to be shortened to fit. Now that the limit is off, nobody wants to back and start adding all the extra keystrokes.

My buddy was at a technical college and the teacher told the students they had to spell the complete words they were using. Sadly, a lot of them didn't and used textspeak, and failed the class.

That is not uncommon, but still sad. We would get that on papers from Ministerial Candidates on the Board of Ordained Ministry; many of whom were Grad School graduates.
