I have a '66 Newport and am having issues with my turn signals. I flip the lever on and as soon as I begin the turn, the lever "returns" just enough for the signals to stop flashing but doesn't completely cancel. Once the turn is complete and the steering wheel begins to return to center, that's when I hear the cancel "click" and the lever itself returns to it's original position. I've replaced the cancelling switch but I get the same results with both. Anyone have any ideas?? TIA

Carefully check how tightly you torque in the screws holding the switch in place. I twiddled my '66 a bit. Recently re-did the Saginaw turn signal switch on my '68 too. You might also adjust how tightly you screwed down the turn signal lever. For a '66, the FSM recommends you test the cancelling lever before you finish assembling the steering wheel. Torque that nut to no more than 24 ft-# but you might back it off a hair, then re-tighten to get that lever just right. In the troubleshooting section, replacing the cancelling finger was advised for a couple malfunctions. Good Luck there!
