66 Sport Fury 'vert - 440 A/C

Stan what did you see on the engine that led you to determine it was a 383 and not a 440?

I know there's a few ways just wondering what you saw

my first take is the "j" is indeed 440 if correct door plate. Sure doesn't look as rough as data plate!
The "H" engine code is a database mistake. H is a 383. They done same thing in 67. I had a 67 SF 4 speed H code, thought it was a hemi! Wrong!
The data plate has been messed with obviously. Not sure why/what though.
There is a good decode link at Mymopar tech site. You can just plug in the codes and it will spit out what you have.
Not a 100% though.
It did my 68 300 pretty well
Don't have link with me at work. will check later at home and post it
Whats strange is: I always thought J code in 66 was indedd a Hemi!
Tom

No, this is incorrect! The ONLY year where "H" actually means Hemi IS 1966. The "J" means 440 in 1966. "G" is 383, and "F" is 361.

For 1967, "H" is 383-4, "J" is 426 Hemi, "K" is 440, "L" is 440HP, and "M" is Special Order.

Thanks for setting that straight Patrick

Educate me. So what would have been a fair price for this car if, in fact, it is a 383 instead of a 440??
Having seen this car in person? Hard to say.
I couldn't find one part that wasn't #4 or worse.
Many things needed replacing.
Tons of Bondo. Poorly done at that.
Trunk pans. Floor pans. Hacked engine compartment. Very amateurish interior. Basically the car is a mess from bumper to bumper in person.
To me it has no value.
To be driven reliably is gonna take money.
To look decent at 20' even is gonna take many, many, thousands.
How much is a rare shitbox C-body worth?
You give me a figure and I'll say OK.
But it's his car.

1. No stamp pad.
2. I could not see any sign that it was a raised deck.
At least I didn't see them when specifically focusing on them.

Thanks for setting that straight Patrick
That's why I love this place. You have Albert Einstein correcting Steven Hawkings with Werner Con Braun throwing in his two cents and Leonardo DaVincy looking on taking notes.
There's a lot of talent in here!

Yet the seller still has a 100% positive feedback. Did this seller not leave any feedback of any kind?

Looked a little deeper and see only 3 feedbacks in the last year all from sellers and not buyers. So what is this car's buyer waiting for?

Sorry, I don't know anything except that he said he bought it on ebay while I was examining the car so I chose to say nothing.

I think the part that is most incredible is that we all have now seen the end of the story of a car that was ruthlessly bashed at $65K a long time ago.

I'm there for ya, brother!

So let me throw some fuel on the fire for the eBay quarter panels. I was able to get a great price on one and pulled the trigger. Other than being a tad bit thinner than I hoped, they are pretty nice for the price.

to add to the list "J" is Hemi in 68-9 too, then 340-6 in 70-71, and 360-4 in 74-79
