Hi All,

I am looking to acquire a 67 Imperial coupe. The owner tells me it had an engine option with dual snorkel, dual exhaust. I thought all 67 Imperials had dual exhaust. Does any one know if there was an HP engine option with dual snorkel and exhaust? Maybe I should just decode the body tag??

Thanks......Arthur

The factory literature states that only the 350 horse 440 was available in 1967 and all were single exhaust. In fact the gas tank is offset tight to one frame rail only leaving room for a single pipe.
In ‘68 there was an optional 440 Dual option as shown in the factory data books below.
I’m not sure what the factory dual exhaust looked like on the ‘68s.

Actually I see that they shrunk the tank by a gallon for ‘68, maybe to gain some space for the dual exhaust option?

Check the VIN number, it might be a '68.

I have the 440 dual in my 68. The 440 dual was a K code with dual snorkel and exhaust, no cam or manifold upgrades...apparently that was good for another 10hp . No Imperials got the L code 440 if you're wondering...they were all of the turquoise variety.

There's no point in my taking pics of my exhaust for you as it is in 50+ year old rusty condition with evidence of muffler shop repairs over the years.

In general, It's like this... looks like it's the same as any C body dual system. Only difference is the front pipes from the manifolds are a little longer to make up for the Imperial stretch.

I seriously doubt it. According to the factory brochures the 440 Dual was 68 Only. The only year the Imperial got an engine "muscle" option.

Sorry to revisit an older thread but I think I have a 67 Crown with the “K” code special order 8. On page 3 of the service manual it states it was on option in 67. Is there anyway to tell the difference between the two 440’s? Mine has single exhaust and standard exhaust manifolds.

The manual is incorrect, misprint or whatever. It’s a well known error.
J is 426 Hemi, K is 440 and L is 440 HP.

Thanks for the clarification! When I bought the car he was advertising it as a 2 door LeBaron. Must be 1 of 1. Ha ha. Do you know what air cleaner should be on it? I need to find one.

Yes, what carb are you running? I have air cleaners. They look like this.

It looks like the stock AFB Carter. I called Murray Park and he has one for $125. Not sure of the condition though. You can pm me if needed. Thanks.
