I'll throw my two cents in here too (on the '68). Personally, if a car didn't come with a vinyl top I wouldn't put one on it, even though I do like the looks of them. The main reason I wouldn't install one is the rust issues and the cracking, shrinking and peeling over time. However, if your car is going to be stored indoors and isn't going to be your daily driver, those things probably won't be a problem. Like someone else said though, in order for it to look right, you will need to get the chrome trim pieces. Since you are going with the factory style wheel covers, I think the dark blue vinyl would probably look best if you decide to go with vinyl.
