69 Chrysler 300 new fuel tank/sending unit fit?

Installing a new fuel tank and sending unit. While the bottom tab of the sending unit will fit the slot as needed, the top tab can't be pushed into place because the pick-up line is hitting the bottom of the fuel tank. Red lines approximate side view of fuel tank. Is this a typical problem or do I have a defective sending unit that's bent improperly? I presume you shouldn't need to muscle it in place that much. The line appears to be stainless making it that more difficult to bend.

Theres 2 lengths of sock filters used for the end of pick up tubes. You have the long one on there, i'm pretty sure the shorter one will fix your problem.
