O.K. Fellas need a little help.
I have always believed that the Rear Wheel Track of a 69 Fury Sedan & a 69 4Dr H/Top were the same.
I have just been soundly abused by a young fella whom I had given that advice.
Seems he wrote off his 69 H'Top & purchased a Sedan. He was swapping all his Hot Gear over
and so asked my advice. When it came to Fitting the Diff & Wheels to the Sedan the wide wheels wouldn't fit under the Guards. As far as I know the Wheel Arches on the H'top hadn't been Altered. I'm Confused. (Any Advice would be Appreciated)

Sedan and hardtop use the same rear axle housings. Wheel house may have been altered or he is not putting the parts into the same year car.

See www.moparts.org it is in the tech archives

measure the width. maybe someone switched the sedan rear with one from another car or another year.

Here’s some measurements that may be of interest

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the Replies
I've gotten to the Stage where I double check any info I find on the Internet.
Here in the Mystical Land of OZ our 65-72 Dodge Phoenix's were Re-badged Plymouth Fury's.
From past memory the 65-66 had a wheel track of "Approximately" 60.00 Inches (Mostly 741 Centre's)
67-68 were "Approx" 1.5 Inches wider around 62.5 inches (741 & 742 Centres)
The 69-72 were again another 1.5 Inches wider. 64.00 inches (small number 742, Mostly 489 Centres)
All Centre's were 3.23 Ratio Open.
This seems to differ somewhat from the info I can find on American built Vehicles.
The only Explanation I can think of is that, as 1970cat suggested, the H/Top had an earlier model diff fitted to allow for the wider wheels.
Regards Tony.M

Probably the quickest way to check is to measure the distance between the backing plates on both cars. If your young friend is swapping parts between two Aussie cars, one would think they should be the same even if the track is different from US built units.

I'm actually planing to use an Earlier model diff in my own car.
I have a set of 15" x 10" Steelies with 295 x 50 x 15 Tyres, these fit O.K.
But the Mystical Land of OZ has far too many Potholes to use that low a Profile.
So by using the Narrower Diff I'm hoping to use 275 x 75 x 15s.
Our Potholes are sometimes Bigger than Texas! Hit one the other side of Cootamundra a while back & it took me Three Days to drive out the other side. LOL
