So cancel that lawsuit...
Slimebags through and through.
That's definitely a CYA move.

But, if they are selling on consignment, they have to follow the seller's direction as they are working for them. It would be counterproductive for them to question the authenticity off every car they sell...

Then again, all these guys are is used car dealers. You never want to forget that. High value, vintage used cars, but still used cars. If you go into a sale of a car like that blind, then you desire to be screwed.

I found a classic car on Gateway Classic Cars website and called Chris Grazer (salesman) to discuss. I specifically asked him if the car was a numbers matching car and he told me yes. He said that Gateway would only sell number matching cars. In fact, he said that he checked it himself and everything was good to go.

I drove to Lake Mary Floriday and purchased a car on December 15, 2014. Mr. Grazer was present at the time of delivery promised that I would received a clean title within 3 days. Four weeks later I received a title in the mail. However, after standing in line at the DMV for over an hour, wasting my time, I was told that the seller did not sign the title so NC would not accept it. I then called Christine at Gateway Classic Cars. She was rude and totally unprofessional. She told me that NC did not know what they were doing. She promised to call the NC DMV and fix the problem. Finally, two weeks later the form did arrive and I registered the car with North Carolina.

However, the NC Fraud and Theft Bureau informed me that the title did not match the VIN plate on the car and the serial number on the frame did not match the VIN plate so now I am required to post a surety bond for 3 times the value of the car and NC will not allow me to keep the original VIN number. This is going to lower the value of the car by thousands of dollars.

I asked Gateway to take the car back and exchange it for another car that was able to be legally registered in NC. But they refused.

They are now refusing to take my calls and are blaming me for the problem. But all I did was pay this company $32,000 dollars for a car that is not what they represented to me.

Stay away from these guys. They do not honor their word and will leave you hanging.

but people really do suck.
That has been our Mantra here since Day 1.

I believe that this is the same car that was owned by someone who was on the original C Body Dry Dock back in the 1990's.

I would really like to see the fender tag on this car to see if it is one of the VERY RARE '71 Sport Furys that was ordered or built with the little known strobe stripe option. I understand that the strobe stripe option just got the side stripes instead of the body side moldings and this could be such a car. I have only seen one and the stripe had been removed when the car was repainted because the early B Body owner flipping the car had no idea what he had. To this day I regret no buying that car in the early 1990's and I have never seen or heard of another since then. The car was sold in Windsor CT, was a "23" body style, the Burgundy like color with a black bucket seat interior, a/c, a 360 and a black vinyl top. If anyone knows the whereabouts of this car please let me know.

Bill

I never knew this either.

Thank you Big John for posting the stripe documentation that I did not have time do.

I have to question whether all 71 GT's were built with black rear bumper appliques vs. color keyed appliques. It is very believable that a Green GT was coming down the line and they did not have any black ones so they put on a green one or one to match the stripe color.

no...mine was gold...believe Garry may have more info on this...believe they followed vinyl roof color not strobe color if l remember correctly....

AFAIR they follow the interieur color with the rear bumper

Looked at the most recent version of the listing.
ALL references to the car being a SFGT have been removed.

Good work, guys. :thumbsup::thumbsup:

the VIN decodes as an original Sports Fury car, the "GT" decal is a add on.

With this type of Stellar feedback I would not even for an instant place a bid on anything his is trying to pawn off to anyone.

Well that about sums that up.

That Hemmings article was crap, and their declining journalistic standards were a reason I let my subscription lapse.
