A friend of mine that runs a tow company brought this to me. It was found in a barn outside of Mt Shasta, CA. It has 64k miles and runs aside from a cracked driver side exhaust manifold.

In my opinion it has an odd combination of options:

383-4bbl, N code
A/C
PDB
Remote hood release
Rear defog
Rear speaker with fader

No power anything in the cab (windows/locks/seat) gives it a bit of police car vibe along with the alpine white exterior.

Hopefully it has a 3.23 suregrip!

A few more pics including the fender tag. It has been a while since a C body has graced our collection. I'm finding myself rather enthusiastic about this resurrection.

Looks like a great find!!!

Interesting the minor difference between you '71 DH43N and my '70 DH43N. Most related to the instrument panel area, obviously. The rr speaker control and the inside hood release specifically.

On 383 4bbl cars, the standard axle was 3.23, with 2.76 optional. SureGrip was optional with either one. IF equipped, there should be a thick plastic tag around the filler plug bolt, I suspect. Might even be on the data plate, as to ratio and SG codes.

You'll probably find a Build Sheet stuffed between the rear seat springs and the burlap backing for the foam.

Great find! Looks to be great condition, considering it has been "undercover" all of these years. Another car for @ayilar to add ot his database.

Get it running and enjoy!

That car will look stunning when brought back to life! The white-over-red is very showy.

Except for A/C, which wasn't common up here in the '70s, that's a very "Canadian" option load :).

Thank you for posting the tag of DH43N1D203007 -- @69CoronetRT @polara71 @71Polara383

The H4E8 garnet interior is fantastic, and the lack of vinyl top is a bonus. @amazinblue82 owns an N-code Monaco with a similar interior, but his is a 2dr and GE7 outside. The thread about how he found DH23N1D120115 is here.

PS: I own a 1971 Monaco and have a detailed thread that has plenty of information about parts, tips, etc. You may find it useful.

In the barn, in the queue.

I am still grateful that you gave it a good home. With somewhat limited storage and floating around 20 cars we have to cut one loose once in awhile. I have not and do not anticipate ever seeing a better option 67. Then again I'm very partial to the 375 horse 440 with closed chambered heads
:)

Sorry for the hijack and yes Ray please send pics of the repaint

Those of us that grew up in the 70's are nodding our heads in acknowledgment of the familiar. "Yep. I know what those are...."

It is in fact from Northern CA lol. Thank you for picking up on that. I was hoping someone would share in my humor from that aspect.

Those are 35mm film containers, used to hold film, nothing else! A certain recurring Adam Sandler SNL skit comes to mind.

Does anyone know if that fader is factory? I remember the reverbs offered with the slabs but I've never seen, or heard of this option on fuselages.

"Reverbs" died with the Slab era.

Otherwise, rear speakers were usually available in an option package on Slabs and Fuselage cars, with "mono" radios. My '70 DH43N came with an AM Radio and Rear Speaker from the factory. Different bezel, of course, than the '71s.d Our '66 Newport Town Sedan came with an AM Radio w/Rear Speaker, too.

Reverberators fell from grace as their "concert hall realism" decay sound was replaced with "Concert Hall realism of Multiplex/Stereo FM radios and 8-track tape decks. THREE speakers across the top of the instrument panel with the sloped and curved windshield reflecting sound toward the passengers as the same happened with the two 6x9s doing the same with the sloped and shaped rear glass. For the time, quite impressive for "Channel A-Channel B" sound. Better frequency response than either Ford or GM cars, by observation.

Enjoy!

One time, at the wildlife park at Avery Island, LA, we were at the lagoon where the alligators hung out. They would get into the edge of the pond, kind of under the observation platform. IF you looked closely, you could see their eyes at water level. UNTIL somebody would toss an empty 35mm film container at them. THEN they jumped "out of hiding" to catch the film container before it hit the water. Quite violent, in some respects. Only worked once or twice before they left and went to a quieter place to do what they did with the containers. Such tossings were NOT encouraged.

I was wrong, it was Rob Schneider originally, later rehashed by Sandler in "Hot chicks". After twenty years my mind is a little hazy. Still funny!

When I bought my '70 DH43N used, with about 80K miles, I checked the VIN and it was "N", for "383 HP", yet the owners manual only showed the 383 2bbl. The car had a March,1970 build date on the door VIN decal. THAT is important.

The carb number and distributor numbers all matched the FSM for 383 4bbl, too. It also has the 10.75" torque converter, which takes 1 qt atf less than the 383 2bbl takes on a fluid/filter change. So everything I found does check out. As always, 383 4bbls had the 3.23 rear axle ratio with the 2.76 as optional. Mine is the 3.23.

In some of the "Dealer Letters" (or similar) in the "Library" section at www.hamtramck-historical.com, there is a letter announcing the availability of the 383 "N" motor in about that time frame. The FSM, which I have a paper copy of, does list the 383 4bbl (383/330) in it. I found that interesting as the owners manual did not mention it, nor did the Polara/Monaco sales brochure., when I found one.

And, somewhere, I have the remains of the Build Sheet, which matches my VIN.

So, they did exist, just not for initial ordering in the fall for show date. As all of the order guides and such would have had to be available for show date, that means they were printed sometime in August of 1969. Why the FSM has the items and the others do not, "a mystery" of sorts.

Enjoy!

That is excellemt information. Thank tou for taking time to explain things.

Was the 375hp 440 discontinued for '71?

For some reason I thought '71 SF GT's could be ordered with the 440hp.
