First of all would this fit a 1972 Fury III, I presumed it did and was told it did so I purchased it. it is 47.30 between axles. Any issues with length of axles on Fury v Imperial

I am interested in rebuilding my 9 1/4 rearend, purchased without testing and not sure if works well - I was thinking about the Yukon Diff with seals here is someone installing one. I have a 8 3/4 with 2.72 now (one wheel wonder). New motor is around 500 hp and I want to upgrade to limited slip

Is this difficult, this guy makes it look easy but many special bearing tools etc.

With respect to the brakes. There are good rotors and new calipers on the axle now.

I know replacement 1974-5 parts are hard to find (rear rotors) Not sure if worth using or replace - is there a set of new brakes, that would fit the axle?

Thanks

Chrysler adopted the "Torsion Quiet" suspension system in 1971, so both the 8.75 in your 72 and the 9.25 from the Imperial will both share Iso clamp perches. They make poly isolators now to firm them up a bit ...the way to go for a driver in my opinion.

Track width for the 70-73 C body was 64 3/8 inches and a perch width of 46 inches, and the Formal had 63.7 inches track width and 47 3/8 inch perch width, so it's not a bolt in if that's what you're after.

Some cutting/ welding of the perches would be needed to make it fit.

If you're on the cheap, it's up to you how best to spend your money...either spend the coin making the 9.25 fit and rebuild it, or rebuild your 8.75 pig with sure grip and the desired ratio.

If you didn't get the master cylinder from the Imperial too, then you won't have enough reservoir capacity on the disc drum master to safely run the Imperial rear discs.

Your call

You could sell me your rear rotors if they're still within spec...

Thank you for the information

Reading this I thought it would be a bolt on - but you say the fury is not 47.3 - I am looking for a strong rearend to withstand my 500 hp motor,

What is the spec for the rotors? I can post picture tomorrow of rearend, it is in really good shape with new calipers so I thought a buy, but not if it doesn't fit

Sound like the 9 1/4 will take some adjusting, Thanks you for your information

WAIT!
The above chart shows the C body 8¼ as having the same dim. as the C body 9¼.
Logic should follow that the 8¾ should be also.
Im of the opinion that the C body 9¼ is a plug n play.
Yes? No?

That chart isn't 100% accurate. I got some flack before for posting it on FABO.

8.25 did not show up in C body until 1974 with low output engines. 8.75 went away after 1973, so no go in C body because fusie to formal body change.

Here is what I know... very little, but my 74 imperial rear end wound up on my friend's 71 satellite/RR wannabe, when I asked he said it bolted right in. IDK which car he used shackles from... point is, this guy has the car and the rear... TAPE MEASURE TIME.

Car is in the body shop, I will ask for a measurement.

I was planning on having the rearend built or do it myself when the car is away for paint and motor since I have the 9 1/4 in my garage.

Need to breakout the C_body specs from a 1970 book and a 1974+ book and put them next to each other. That will be definitive.

Mr C: where did you get you C-body 8¾ dimensions from.

And my information is second hand... I never look at that car the same after... I was heart broken...no first hand other than it WAS installed.

Spring perch widths (center-to-center)
A BODY’66-’73: 43″
B BODY’62-’70: 44″
’71-’74: 47.3″
C BODY’65-’73: 46″
E BODY’70-’74: 46″
Intersting. Figures that Formals would be the oddball.

Min Spec is cast into the rotor on the inside surface...I don't recall off hand.

My 2 cents A bodies are the same through out their life, why the arbitary 66 which is the last year for first gen "A"
goes all the way to '76
B body should be same from 71-76
C body formals changed the floor pans and rails, front suspension changed also.
