Northern lights.........I've always wanted to get stationed in Alaska when I was in the Army..... never made it there or Hawaii either. The first 2 destinations of my official "Army Wish List" of the 3 dream assignments I chose.

My dad was a stationed in Alaska as a Master Sergeant and was a drill instructor, training in small arms, artilliary, winter survival etc. during the Korean conflict. He got his pilots licence there and was working on his helocopter pilots licence when he got out, I have some of his books and paper work from that, which is pretty interesting.

This was in Colorado Springs in 1950 with his '49 Olds. When he went to Alaska he could not take a convertible, or a pickup, so he bought a new Chevrolet Suburban that was considered a station wagon at the time, and sold it up there for about what he paid for it new after it was a few years old. He said that he and some comrades would pull each other on skis on a frozen lake and could pull hard enough to the side to spin the truck around.

Cool, my Dad lost his older brother in '45, he was a B-26 Marauder pilot.

My Dad was in Artillery. His brother was in Korea too, Artillery also. Both in 8" Self Propelled Battalions.
