The one building the next will have a clone by Definition. :)

O.K. I'll bite, if they never made one, is it a clone

Great point Dave. I'll vote no

He's just having fun though. As Matt pointed out in the link Stu calls it the Bird-able. He fabbed/grafted that Air Grabber to it too and he's got a modern 5 speed in it

I like what he did with it..... If the guy has a passion for what he created and wing cars in general then Nice job. Dont put it together and then try and sell it

Nothing wrong with selling it IMHO. It's extremely well documented on FBBO and other sites as to what it is and Stu would never try to sell it as an original car that was never made. I wouldn't think many people would be dumb enough to try to pull that off either and if they did they'd be ridiculed immediately.

He has no plans to sell that I'm aware of anyway but everything get's sold someday

Thats not my point. I cant tolerate people taking a perfectly good car, trying to "customize" it only to sell it off. Dont ruin what it was to make it something you are gonna be bored with.

Stuart is a great guy. I got to meet him last year at Carlisle.

If you saw the huge guy walking around there with the Rocky the flying squirrel leather helmet and goggles... That was Stuart.

IIRC, he started with a Satellite convertible and I think a lot of the stuff on the car is real Superbird. He's had some hard times and lost his business and sold a lot of his cars.

I hate to hear that ........ And I think I remember the hat

OK, gang, let's get some terminology straight here, once and for all...!

First, this can NOT be a "clone", since a real one never, ever existed in the first place. This is called a "PHANTOM", which means "one-of-none", a real-world creation from the builder's mind of something the factory never, ever built! A HEMI '66 Belvedere wagon, a ragtop winged car, or a Hemi convertible "C"-body are all "Phantoms"...

A "clone", a "tribute", or a "re-creation" is taking a 318 Coronet, a slant-six '69 Barracuda, or a '70 Newport convertible, and making a 440+6 Coronet R/T, a '69 440 'Cuda, or a '70 300-Hurst ragtop. When trying to pass these off as legitimate factory-built cars, then you have a little issue called "FRAUD".

we beat the terminology to death on this board a few years back. As I recall, we couldnt all agree

this is called a "phantom",
nope ....... You can't make it up as you go ......
No such phrase as "phantom" is used beyond your front porch......:poke:

A "clone", a "tribute", or a "re-creation" is exceptable practic except when trying to pass these off as legitimate factory-built cars, then you have a little issue called "fraud".

A beautiful V-code 71 Super Bee sold today at Mecum for $91,000.

91 thousand...
That's a playing level I was destined to never being able to play in.
Strangely enough that was the only level that I probably subconsciously worked at avoiding.
I have never had as much enjoyment as all my bottom feeder purchases.

Mecum has a 1971 Hemi 4 speed Cuda ragtop that is going to be sold at the Seattle auction. One of 11 built.

I'm thinking north of $2.5 million....

Right Dave I see what you mean and agree for most cars. Stuart loves it and doubtful is going to sell it soon unless he HAS too, however when he does he'll find a willing buyer who know's exactly what it is.

I hear the term "phantom" quite often. I can't help it if you don't, but "phantom" is the accepted term for "one-of-none" builds. A "clone" by definition, must be a COPY of something that already exists. These very terms were conceived by several fan-boy magazines in the pre-Interwebz '90s, such as Mopar Muscle, MCG, Car Craft, Pontiac Performance, Mustang Monthly...shall I continue?
