Anyone know this ‘70 GT?

The way he took off was inexcusable. It could have been a pedestrian trying to cross that he hit.

Just like those mustang videos that's every where taking out crowds

There's a local ice cream shop in our area that does a huge cruise in in July every year. There's always guys doing burnouts and people just line the road. I won't stay for the "show" it's to hazardous. My kids like to watch the contest at Carlisle, but that is a very well controlled environment.

Carsten, what seats does that car have - the headrests suggest they are not bucket seats? I like the car when you had it.

Steve it has black bucket seats.
It is a Brougham interieur though

Carsten

Do you have any GT's on your lot, Steve?

Yes, Scott, but it needs a complete restoration, although Carsten may disagree. It is factory B7 blue car, which is why Carsten wants it. It is a totally rust free (except for surface rust!), straight Nevada sunburnt car with a/c, AM/FM stereo, buckets, console, power disc brakes, no vinyl roof etc. I have a bunch of NOS parts for it I have been saving too plus reproduction interior parts and other stuff. I told Carsten it will be his one day. I think I should restore it and then will it to him when I am gone, but he would rather have it now just as it is and drive it, maybe with some paint "touch up". It runs and yard drives fine (off a slave bottle). I think I would like to add a remote outside review mirror though. Numbers matching, 77K miles. We will see......................................

It is a good set of photos to start off the new year................................. :)

Does it have the white ore black stripes......?
( Must be white thinking of the B7 blue...?).

Steve, would you mind telling us a bit more about the car's history? The outside patina is awesome! How can paint burn that much? I would do a complete restoration with the outside as is. Lovely!

I see the battery heat shield..which was unique to the GT and fleet applications......

I have no history on the car - just bought it off Ebay a bunch of years ago from a seller that was liquidating a bunch of cars headed for the junkyard. All I knew is that I wanted it and I knew what it was - it had all the must have options and the right color too. Hardly anyone bid on it.

Until you experience Nevada desert heat, I can't explain adequately in words its ability to vaporize paint.

I really don't know what is wrong with you Germans - is it something in the water or what? Driving a crap looking car in with all the V12 Mercedes S class sedans and Maybachs in Germany and you pull up alongside one in something like mine - what does it say about you that you find so wonderful? Restore it but leave the "patina" as is???!!!

I think Carsten must have put you up for this post so he would seem normal!

If I would buy it now I would have a tough time.
It would be the first car I would have to paint completely.
No joke. It would be the first time ever.
I really love original paint. Including old tired and worn paint.
But: in this case there is no paint left.
Sitting inside, looking outside I would see a completely brown hood. I could think I bought a brown car. No way.
So with having only probably 10% original blue left: It needs paint in my book, too.

Another solution:
I am fine if Steve restores this SFGT.
I would just like to take it over ASAP as he is finished with it. Or mostly.
Of course I do want to have Steve well, alive and kicking.
So I gladly rent it of Steve for ten years after the SFGT is redone. I will pay him for the rent of course.
After ten years I would return it to him hopefully receiving it back later own.
I would promise to drive it at least 10.000 miles in the ten years. If needed I would drive 20.000 miles, too:steering:

Does it sound like a plan, Steve?:):):)
If you agree: Please start today with the resto:):):):):)

Wow, how long did it take you to devise that plan? Now in retirement, I just take one day at a time - it keeps things interesting. I really don't know yet what I will do with the car. I might just let it go to you as is or I might just restore it and then decide. I really don't know yet. Usually circumstances dictate what I will do at this point rather than planning my friend.

One other thing Carsten, I am 70 now and you are still in your 40s, right? I don't think your plan leaves me with a lot of time to spend with it!
