Automatic Shifter indicator adjustment

Can anyone explain to me how to adjust the shifter needle to align with the proper letter in the speedometer cluster .

On most, the needle is hooked to the steering column by means of a small screw. Usually you will have to drop the trim panel under the steering column to expose the needle base. the needle base is slotted so you can take the screw loose and move the needle where it needs to be.

As Dave said, it's very easy to do. Just be kind and gentle with your old, brittle plastic parts!

I did find a slotted piece of metal that connects to the steering column but that didn't make much difference. I had to move the shifter to get to the bolt, is there any thing behind the speedometer

To adjust the needle? No.

The needle (basically piece of wire, painted orange) has a loop (the slot we're talking about) where it attaches to the shifter collar (it's what rotates when you move the shifter) on the left side of the column. A small screw holds that needle loop/slot to the collar. Loose, slide to where you want it, tighten.

I guess I should have explained that my car is a 66 Plymouth Fury III I haven't noticed any wire that you pointed out

Hi Dave thanks for the info. I was able to get it figured out, the slotted piece was the adjustment wasn't easy but I got it close.

trial & error its not hard but u have to unbolt the bottom on the dash/ steering column to get to it . check the factory service book in the dash break down it should show u about how to get to it there is a 1/4-5/16" bolt that holds it in place (7/16-1/2" head on the bolt all the screws will be Phillips head)

i had to make my own pointer s mine was broken off i used a coat hanger & made a bending jig in a vice & painted the end with florance paint (hobby shop)

but the\at is where the trail comes in

yes it is there is no set way to do it u can get pretty close it will not be perfect thats is where the trial comees in then make sure the bolt or nut is tight
