Does anyone know what the proper group size battery fits into a 66 Sport Fury 440? I'm pretty sure it's a group 27, but just checking.

Mine is a 27. I buy the dodge ram truck Battery from Mopar (blue and white) for my Polara. They are reasonably priced, and some of them are 6-7 years old, and hold up well. Even after extended storage.

You can still get a group 27 battery from Chrysler...or you can go online at AAP do an online order and save $40-$50 and pick it up in the store and even have them install for you if you trust them to put it in. I would install it myself.

DuraLast Gold off the shelf from AZ.
I went for cranking power. A heat soaked 440 is like trying to roll over a sleeping elephant.

I have had 2 Optimas get bad cells prematurely. I thought the first one was a fluke, after the 2nd one they lost my business. You buy one because you think you are getting a quality product, not my experience.

Thank you! Good to know. You are the first person, how gave me a personal review. I thought these batteries were top of the line?!

I went with a agm platinum from advanced auto. Time will tell if they hold up or not. If it breaks there's nothing that will leak out and ruin anything or get acid on anything. Cranking amps and power similar if not better than an optima and maintenance is said to be easier. I always though optimas were some of the best batteries, that is until I was in Afghanistan and saw how many of them the heat just plain kills. Suppose that would happened with most any battery in that harsh environment. Seemed like more than a fair share of them expired prematurely though. Unfortunately its not period correct.

I did the same on my 440 in the swepty. Huge difference I was amazed and ill be converting the fury over also. though ill have to use a mini with the headers anyhow. So much easier on the battery cranking over a big block.

Wow! Not a single person said he should check the FSM! What's happening to this place?

I thought AGM batteries needed different charging profiles than lead-acid. Or is this just as a house battery thing for RVs?

This might sounds strange, but Walmart carries a group 27 or 24,.. Called the Everstart MAXX. Has 1000 cca for $105. I think the manufacturer is Exide.

I just checked AAP and couldn't find it. You're talking about Advanced auto Parts,..right? The only thing I'm finding they carry is Auto Craft and Optima.

Thanks for that rexus,.but I'm not stock at all.

So you guys are saying a mini Dodge ram starter will fit and work for my 440? Any mods that need to be done? Also what year would I order that will fit? Had an issue last year with Summit Racing,.ordered a mini for the car and it didn't fit. Guy said it had to be clocked, but there was no way to clock it. Ended up putting in another stock starter that I'm not happy with. So now I have to do it all over again when the stocker shits the bed.

I just dropped a yellow top in my '03 Ram, I thought it insurance against the 11yo factory battery that was still in it, hokey smokes does it spin that little 4.7 fast.
