My Ford Fairlane as it was yesterday:

And as it sits now after an engine bay fire last night:

Looks as though it was an electrical problem, that side of the engine bay houses the battery and the main fuse box/relays.
Had just got home half an hour earlier when my lad heard a loud noise, I went outside to investigate and found myself staring at the car on fire. Took the fire brigade around 15 minutes to get here, by then I had most of it out using buckets of water. They couldn't get the bonnet (hood) open so they had to cut away the top of it to put it out properly.
It was a really good, comfy and quite economical daily driver which had been well looked after by previous owners, shame really.

I remember the Ford Probe's having weak wiring back in the late 1980's and having engine fires.

sorry for your loss here but hopefully insurance will cover the car.

I bought this 3 months ago and had not insured it...:BangHead:

You sound like you are taking this well. Glad you or your family was not in the car. You can always get another car. Since this happened at home, maybe your household insurance will cover it. Won't hurt to ask. Have fun shopping for the next one.

I'll have to look into the house insurance policy. Cheers.

Did you do the Ammeter bypass?? Sorry couldn’t resist seeing as how you are taking this so well. But seriously sorry about what happened that is one of the few modern Fords I like.

I know nothing about auto electrics, so no. Whether someone else had messed with it, I don't know.
Gotta stay positive my friend.

I have no idea what the Australian junkyard scene is like, but that looks repairable. Then again, you did say you're not an electrical guy...

Who gets socked with the carbon taxes for an unpermitted release like that ;)

Glad to see this occurred in your yard, not in the garage. Everyone is safe and that’s what matters most.
