I've got a 1978 nyb 440 engine and I'm having trouble finding belts for the ac/alternator. The belts I'm buying are too long. My old belt measures 56 inches and it's stretched. The belts that the car calls for are either 66 inches or 58.5 inches depending on what alternator. Any body else had this problem before. Thanks

I just replaced the belts on my 69 300 with 440 & A/C. They are a matched set but you can buy two induvidual belts and end up with a set.
I used two Goodyear gaterback #15595. Fit perfect and can be bought on line or at your local parts store.

OHHhhhhhhh.......... Never mind.

So go t oa real parts store and tell them you need the belt with the same prefix as the 58.5 and a length of 56. Kids in a retailer based store may not know how to determine Vbelt lengths but an older parts guy at a jobber store will.

A 11A1385 belt should be fine, that's 55" long. Examples are Dayco/Goodyear/AC Delco number 15545 or Gates 7545
These have a top width of 0.44" instead of the 0.40" for the 58 and 66" belts, I've done that before and never had a problem with it.
Gates also has 2 0,40" belts, the 7541 (54") and the 7550 (55")

On the DAYCO site you can search on belt length http://www.daycoproducts.com/online-catalog-1?part_type=30 and on the site of Gates there's a nice part number interchange tool http://www.gates.com/all-search-tools/search-by-application
