Big Blue, the 67 Crown Coupe - Managing Director Edition

Who's insurance is going to cover the damage?
In theory, the company I contracted with, Montway, will pay. They claim they carry $1 million in coverage for car transport. I'll certainly file a claim. The trucker already filed a claim with his insurance company for the damage to his rig. His company, Progressive, called me and said they will cover damage to the car, minus the insured's $1K deductible. We'll see how it all works out.

Table may not be big enough but who cares???

I'm in the process of reproducing the table setup. It would be helpful to visit with a complete Mobile Director car here in California. Does anybody have one in CA or know somebody who does?

That process would make a great thread of its own.

So, one of the Imperial Club mailing list guys, Allen M., connected me with Michael A. in San Jose, CA, who has an intact Imp MD car. I plan to visit him and his ride next week.
In other fix-up news... The steering box is rebuilt and installed -- works fine, drives straight without any slop. The open seam on the rear seat has been restitched -- looks perfect. Getting a set of new tires mounted tomorrow. Wheel alignment, ball joints lubed, etc. Wheel bearing repack? Maybe. I bought an original shop manual, which should help with lots of tasks. Will visit the hardware store tomorrow to see what size pipe will thread onto the table mounting point.

Haven't been able to find a coupling the right size to connect the pedestal. Will have to have one machined. Went to the local Cars and Coffee to get some machine shop leads. Will make some calls on Monday. Ordered a pedestal that is a close match to the original. Visiting with Michael A. in San Jose, CA next week to take some measurements off his Imp M.D. BTW, nobody who saw my car at C & C today had ever seen one like it before.

If you are not aware DetMatt is a certified wood working Ar-Teest. If you need someone do do the table top in a nice wood befitting this bespoke automobile maybe give him a shout (since he'll probably not toot his own horn)

Thanks Bryan but I'm sure it was originally some sort of veneer faced plywood or I wouldn't even be terribly surprised if it were a plastic laminate. Hopefully some sort of hardwood plywood.

Matt;
Since you've been "volunteered," perhaps you could give me a price on a 16 by 26-inch table that folds in half (8 x 26) using concealed hinges (Guden hinges?). The corners are 1-inch radius. Solid 3/4-inch Walnut is my preference, even though the original looks like particle board with Formica. I'll do the urethane finish and have the cushion tops made.

Figured as much but if it has to be reproduced thought maybe he'd want a nice piece of quality hardwood to match or exceed the original veneer.

Sorry to volunteer you

I'd be honored to have some of my handy work in one of these cars and I happen to have plenty of walnut in the shop at the moment. I assume you're ok with end grain showing on the short sides? I'd want you to order the hardware and have it sent to my shop. Send me a pm and we can hammer out the details.
