Big easy, New orleans.

Sure enough, the busses showed up on time and off we went to the cajin dinner party which was held at the president of the Big Easy Mopar Association, (Paul), residence. His entire sub was under 15 feet of water 10 years ago so everything there was like a new, very high end, neighborhood. There was even a place for the tour busses to park. The feast was already laid out. Asside from the Fried chicken, red beans & rice, pasta with breaded veal and gumbo, there was boiled shrimp, raw oysters & oysters rockafellow, turtle soup, crawdads, ........ all made by club members. Add to that beer, soda's, water, and vodka shooters. I'm sure i'm missing something, but you get the idea.
Then came time for the supprise activity we were all wondering about.....
In new Orleans they have a very special way of carrying out funeral's. A director dressed in white tails and a sash with a battone leads a 5-6 piece brass band playing somber music and the funeral follows with white hanky's and/or umbrella's. It's called the first line.
On the return from the cemetery they pick up the tempo and the funeral participants dance and wave their hanky's. It's called "the second line"
Well...... Rob Wolf was elected as the director, (white tails and all), everyone was giving white hanky's, umbrallas, and the band came out of the house playing, fell in behind Rob and we all fell in line behind the band and danced all the way down the street waving our hankys and twirling umbrellas. Herb McCandless had two unbrellas and was like a little kid dancing out there. At the end they had vodka shooters ready and we all turned and marched back to the house. I've seen them, but never thought i'd participate in a second line funeral march. COOL.
We all got the chance to have a picture taken with the band, did some sing alongs, and generally got really happy.
It was getting dark and my pictures of the party aren't that good, but i'll post them anyways.

Finally...... The busses took us back to the host hotel and our vehicles. We got back to the RV park about 11;00 PM. We were wiped out..... But what a day.

Next day, Saturday, was show day. Held in a beautiful park on lake Pontchartrain. We made it over there by 9;30 and parked in a nice section near the enterance of the show field. We laid the top back, cleaned Jazebelle up a little and then just relaxed. The sun popped out about 11:00and it was a magnicifient day. Close to 200 Mopars, Most of which I had never seen. We met folks from all over the US and made some great new friends. Tim Welborn came over and invited Jazebelle and us to a upcoming "winged Warrior" show at his museum in Alabama this August. All in all a great day, ending with Jazebelle being awarded "best C body.

Well, thus ended the show ..... but wait. Some of the local members invited us to go with them to a 3rd Saturday cruise in about 30 miles away........ so off we went. There were about 75-100 vehicles at a casino. Great restaurant, fun evening.
I fell in love with the 65 Royal Bobcat GTO.

We slept in Sunday morning, then headed to the French quarter in jazebelle. Tight quarters there, all one way streets and lots of folks milling around. We cruised the quarter for about 45 minutes before running up on a restaurant that had come highly recommended by the locals we had met. Right there, on the corner, right in front of the place was a parking spot big enough to fit Jazebelle in. (parking is a premium around the quarter and the paid lots are very expensive). We went in and enjoyed a great meal, (I had an alligator sausage po boy). Then decided to leave the car there and started walking....... for about 3 hours, all over the quarter.
We came back and there was a parking ticket on the windshield.... damm. Cost was $40.00 if paid in 30 days. Then I looked closer. Some of you know I have a 1969 Alabama "sample" license plate on Jazebelle. I do have another 69 Bama tag registered to her, but I keep that one in the trunk. The sample tag # 00-00000 has been displayed on the car for over 3 1/2 years now and has never been questioned. The ticket says red Chrysler AL tag # 00-00000. No other info. Good luck tracing that....! I figure I saved a bundle on parking and got a free souvenir ticket.
We drove all over New Orleans after that..... The warehouse district, the garden district and some districts not so pleasant.

So...... that's it, We drove home with the top down Monday.
Some French Quarter pictures...... Hope I haven't bored anyone.

Does anyone else get the irony of the last photo.....?

What I keep noticing is that Ellie always seems to be having a good time and is enjoying herself in your trip or cars show posts. You are a lucky man Will and I know you know that, and I also know you deserve that woman and she deserves you. This thread made me feel good. Thank you.

Congrats too :)

I agree....to find one a woman that loves doing the same things that you do is very rare.

Thanks for all the pics&stories of a great trip Will.

Besides that:
Ellie&you seem to have a lot of fun and give me hope that I can continue to have fun, too when I am older

I hope you will continue to have a lot of fun over the years enjoying your retirement.
