C body 8 3/4 axle question.

So I'm sending a 69 Fury shell off to the crusher tomorrow after years of salvaging sheet metal patches.
I wanted to restore the axle for my 69 Polara project. I pulled it out and cleaned off the years of grease and grime to look at the # 2070742 which according to the 8th edition of Galens #'s book is a 1959-1968 rear. This number is on the center section. Is there another number somewhere else on the axle? Is it possible the factory put this in a 1969 C body?

Yes possible. No other numbers but a date on ring gear. Either way it is the best 8 3/4 cnter sextion.

65-69 C-body rear is 61.75" wide so it should fit.

Do you have the fender tag for the car? Can you post a picture?

You could compare the dates of car and gear.

The 2070742 casting (a.k.a. "742") 1-3/4" pinion differential assembly was used from 1961 into 1969. This assembly was replaced by a phase-in of the 2881489 casting (a.k.a. "489") 1-7/8" pinion starting in the 1969 model year.

1970 model year RW models (Plymouth and Dodge B-body mid-size) were the last models to use the 1-3/4" pinion which was actually built into a 2881489 case instead of the 2070742 case.

No fender tag. This shell was cut in half before I got it for the trunk pan.
Just so I understand, the axle without the center section is not numbered or date coded?
The current gear is a 276 so planned on changing the center section anyway.
