C body newbie, looking at a 68 VIP

I love the color of the VIP & I see an AM / 8 track radio. Good looking car. Those VIPs had nice trim & bright work.

@bluefury361
What is the green car next to it?

I spotted it right away too..........................because I just sold this 1968 Barracuda notchback a few weeks ago. Nice original untouched car with relatively low miles as well. And one of my favorite colors. Neither the steering wheel or dashpad was even cracked either. Love these designs. I mean, those gills in the rear of the lower sill moldings, the simulated chrome intakes in the hood, and the gas cap are just a few examples of the nice detailing on those cars.

I have a friend in Crossville Tenn that has a 68 VIP. It's a nice original 20K mile car with one repaint. I'm sure he would sell and I considered it myself. I have no idea what he would want for it but, if interested, I could hook you up.View attachment 113403 View attachment 113404 View attachment 113405 View attachment 113406 View attachment 113407

The car looks much better now. I shamed him into cleaning it and parking it in a building. It really needs a new home.

If I was ever going to own a slabside, it would be this VIP. Outstanding car! I remember going down to the local dealer when the 1968 VIPs came out and probably spent a full half hour just looking one just like this over in detail.

Is that a 383 or 440 in that VIP?
You should post some more details on it, and maybe a price range your buddy might want for it. Somebody who isn't in the market might buy it 'just because'.

It's 383 HP.
I don't make it a habit of pricing other folks cars & the pictures show it to be a pretty well equipped vehicle. It comes down to "you wanna kick tires, or make a fair offer...."? If truly interested send a PM and I'll hook you up with the owner. He has a good idea of what it's worth, and what he has invested, and is a real horse trader...... But please be somewhat seriously interested.

Oh, I didn't mean for you to price it, as you already said you had no idea. I wanted to know his ballpark on it (from him). If it was a number good for me, then I would ask for more info, or maybe other people from here would inquire.

But on a car sitting under lots of dust, in general unknown running condition, there's no way to make a fair offer (fair to either person). I'm a big fan of litmus tests, and established asking price is the first one. Saves everybody's time.

He's had the car for a long time. As I said, I shamed him into pulling it out and cleaning it up. As of now it's detailed and stored inside, runs great, (21K original miles), and ready to drive anywhere, (I'd add new tires).
There is a damaged molding on the pass door where it was rubbed on a garage door opening.

So is it somewhere between #3 and #2, then?

A 21k car has been sitting a long time, at some point in its life. Might've been driven infrequently enough to do it more harm than good. When was the last time this one was driven regularly, or made a 300-mile roadtrip? How long did it sit in that moist gravel parking place? What's the underside look like?

I'm not meaning to sound belligerent, only that these are answers a prospective buyer would need to be sure of what they're getting.

It seems some of the grille pieces are missing on the turquoise VIP. After looking at some images of regular Furys though, it does look like it is the same grille used on the regular models like the Fury IIIs.

It looks like a shadow where the VIP emblem should be, can't tell if it's there or not, and there's something extra on teh passenger side. A grille badge or ???

I would put it closer to a #3 in current condition, but it would not be a big effort to bring it to #2 or close.
My first "big" Chrysler was a 64 300 convertible I found in a garage in Florida. It had not been on the road for over 20 years and not out of the garage for 15 years. I think there was 80-90K on it then. The wheels wouldn't even turn. I trailered it home and gave it a mechanical makeover, brakes, oil pump, carb, belts & hoses, major tune and all fluids. It ran great. I drove it as my DD for the next three years. It's the car that transformed me from B to C body's.
I think, with due diligence this car will be one of those cars.

Wait a minute! His search was supposed to take 2-3 years. WTH!?!
