I haven’t seen this in person, but on Facebook:
Probably considered one of the ugliest, most progressively styled cars from the 1970s the AMC "Matador" This one however is the "Holy Grai" of all Matadors.
1974 AMC Matador
Brougham X Coupe 4-Speed Manual
1 of 312 Factory Produced with 401 V8
Black on Black / Bucket Seats & Floor Shifter
235 HP 401 Cubic Inch V-8 /Dual Exhaust
8.25:1 compression ratio / 335 lb-ft of torque CW 3,993 lbs
Twin-Grip limited-slip differential.
Reportedly 1 of 5 to have been a
3-speed Automatic on the floor from factory/
Then Customer Requested /Dealership Converted to 4-Speed Manual /AMC Javelin Transmission
The original owner was a pilot in the Los Angeles, California area who bought the car on December 28, 1973. After the Matador arrived from AMC's Kenosha, Wisconsin factory with a three-speed automatic and a floor shifter, the buyer, did not like the fact that AMC did not offer a factory 401/four-speed manual drivetrain on the Matador.
VIN: A4C169Z231868
The third digit is the transmission code. This Matador code says A for American Motors, 4 for the year 1974, and C for the transmission, which stands for automatic floor shift. If it was a factory 4 speed the vin code would be an M.
The 8 being the last digit indicates X trim package with 401 V8.
