The Corsair in that gorgeous blue and a shiny aluminum P-52 Mustang were my modeling favorites.

We took a beating in the early pacific conflict and the navy was hesitant using them on carriers when they first came on to the scene. You couldn’t see **** & they had to change the landing gear a bit. It just would have been nice to have them at midway against Japan’s most seasoned pilots.Umm, it was the primary fighter of the Marine Corps in the Pacific. It had the second most kills behind the Hellcat. They both entered service in 1942, not sure what you are on about.
Yup, it was on a gunnery practice range in New South Wales, place called Parkes. From there the air frame was transported to Oakey airbase which was where aircraft were salvaged or repaired. I found part of this plane on a farm less than an hour from Oakey.Very cool! A brief search yielded this bird made a wheels up landing. Was that pic taken the day it crashed in '45?
