I've never driven a "big truck" or "big rig", but I have driven transit buses for over 34 years. They have measured anywheres from 30, 35, 40 & 66 feet long. Many days I wished I was hauling cargo instead of people. Love the pictures!

2 years and 11 months to retiring from driving a transit bus and on to other things! And yes, I am counting!

When I got my CDL the guy at the license center told me I forgot pass endorsement, my reply was nope I am not hauling anything that talks back.

Stan-

The 66 footers are the ones that bend in the middle or are "articulated". I don't drive them much anymore because I have plenty of seniority and pick routes with shorter buses assigned to them.

Being senior man means never having to say you're sorry.
That was my motto.
Without seniority, you have nothing.

What's seniority? I guess I have nothing then. On forms at my employer they have a spot for seniority date, but they never go by it for anything.

I never got my CDL, don't know why, I've always liked driving and I like semis.

Then, as you say, you have nothing.
You can work there 30 years and a new no-nuthin chitbum can get favored by the boss over you because the boss is a **** and the new guy is cute??

How did you know what I think of my boss?!? My wheels have been spinning the last couple of weeks as to how I can get out of there and become my own boss. I have a lot of learning/questions to be asked in the coming weeks. And to think I was a happy complacent sheep in March.

The post I got this from said it had a 6-71 Detroit engine

I've seen those in the back of old busses... even the old inline should have been nicer to work on than some of the newer trucks I've seen. I would have thought a bigger engine in a big wrecker... lots of extraction work for that kid of rig. I suppose they just geared it way down.

While it's not a BigHorn I am working my way towards owning one some day. I'm going to start working on my CDL after the first of the the year. So far we have a 1962 W500 and a 1967 D600 in the fleet. My last and most needed item will be a brush fire truck, preferably a 61-71 W500. In fact, I just missed a 1970 W500 brush truck for $3500 about 80 miles away in Klamath Falls. I'm still sick about that one. I love working old trucks and equipment, it's really fun and at times productive! I guess while we are on the subject here is my Cat 955 and the D600 : )

Sorry for the hi-jack!
