Go back and get him before someone else does.
Believe me, I'd love to have kept him but it just wasn't in the cards right now. We can't give him the attention he needs at this point and don't believe in hooking them outside on a doghouse or dog run until it's convenient for us. He needs to be housebroken and just craves attention. Between being gone three days a week with my daughter for preschool (am there now) 25 miles away and other travel coming up soon, I just couldn't make it work. I'd go back and get him in a heartbeat to keep the grim reaper away and deal with the repercussions later, but it's better for him to go to a family who has the time he needs right now if possible.
Funny thing was - he showed up in our yard sometime around 3:30 in the afternoon last Tuesday and took up patrol, laying next to my truck on either side and barking at any vehicle that went by if he thought they were going too slow or otherwise posed a threat. Didn't want to come inside - every time I lured him into the garage he'd run back out when I stepped away to close the door. When it rained, he wandered up to lay by the 300 under the car port. I put an old moving blanket out by my truck the first night and he was happy as a clam. Finally coaxed him into the garage during the monsoon, and they came to get him the next day.
He'll make someone an excellent companion. We'll find another fur ball in a year or so when things are more settled.
