Well no surprise, there's a couple different driveshafts for my 67 fury III. Of course I do not have the one I need. I pulled a 318/904 out of it and put a 413/727 back in. What I've figured out is there must be a 727 drive shaft and a 904 driveshaft.( playas correct me if I'm wrong) as the driveshaft that was in it is too long. So my question is , does anybody know what Cbodies have driveshaft that will work on my fury? Other than a fury. Thanks again gentlemen!!

Best bet is to have a driveshaft shop make you a new one with the correct yoke. Your FSM will have the center to center length for your combination. Double check it with a tape measure.

The next option is to have yours shortened and install a 727 yoke.

Screwing around with used shafts isn't worth the time and money. You can spend the money (if you can find one that is) and there's a good chance it's twisted or too rusty to use.... If nothing else, the balance weights have usually been knocked off.

Well Booo! I spent the time to put the 727 yolk on the original driveshaft to find out it was too long. Of course the newyorker driveshaft is too long also. Boo again! I've got a lead on a driveshaft I'm going to check locally. I know I can have one made for around 250 but work slowed down enough that I can't justify spending that right now. I'm gonna have to gamble with used.:BangHead:

If you have the yoke, get yours shortened. That will probably be cheaper than a good used one.

A good formula to determine drive shaft length is the measure center of diff yoke cap to center of the slip yoke cap, (inserted into the trans to its full depth), and subtract 1/2" to allow for slip yoke travel.
A completely new tube is best.

I have a '65 Fury and unfortunately it could not be shortened because of it's profile and construction method. The last foot of the shaft before the differential was tapered to a smaller diameter and the original yokes on the shaft were "yesterday's news". These universal yokes were too small to handle the output of the engine reliably. I secured a shaft from a Ram pickup and had it shortened and it fit perfectly. My combo is a 383 hi-po and 727 tranny. Now when it comes to shortening a shaft, make sure you are armed with the proper information to measure it properly. Here's the site I used and it has a printable spec sheet that you fill out and take to the shop. No guessing, no mistakes.

Well I'm not sure what I have going on here, other than the fact that I don't have the right driveshaft! Measuring from center line of bearing bore to center line of bearing bore my driveshafts measures 57.75. Now according my service manual it's supposed to measure 54.13 for 318 and 383, and 53.88 for 440. I guess I've got a bastard!

If Ypsilanti isn't too far P.M. me and I'll hook you up with the company that's been in the drive shaft building, balancing, and tweaking business for 45 yearz that I know of and they do it fast and right at a fair price, Jer

Ypsiew's a lil over an hr away. Not too bad but after a little research today I found 2 shops locally. I'm gonna give them a try. It still doesn't explain why there's a 57.75" driveshaft in car that requires a 54.13. Gotta love starting on someone else's puzzle! Thanks for the offer Jer. If I have to beat these guys for screwin up my shaft, I'll be P.M.en you for sure!

The difference is 904 versus 727. The shaft for the 904 is about 3 1/2- 4" longer.

I don't know why your FSM doesn't list the 904 though... That is more of a mystery to me.

Tell me about it!! I'm pretty sure they came with 904's! I guess I should be happy that I have the measurements I need tho! One more piece of this puzzle that is Mopar!
