I am looking to see if anyone has info on how much better a dual pass radiator might cool.

I currently have a 22" aluminium radiator made by champion. It was rated for up to 350hp and has 2 "1inch" cores. I think this one is borderline for my combo in the summer with AC....

How would a dual pass radiator of equal size perform compared to this standart flow radiator? I heared that those can keep the engine 10 to 20° cooler, is that true???
 
Dual pass works well with crossflow radiators. You can't make a Dual pass Downflow radiator. It must be a Triple pass. Down, up and then down again. We tried this early on with our products and found that when the flow needed to be 'pushed' up through the middle section, we got cavitation. Cavitation is not good. Instead, we use dual 1 1/4" tubes which gives that extra capacity needed beyond dual 1" configurations. So for downflow radiators, if dual 1" isn't enough, you have to solve the problem with a bigger radiator or better air flow.
 
Several months ago, I was looking at my 1970 Monaco and considering radiator possibilities for replacement of the factory a/c 26" radiator. I didn't want to spend $500+ for a new copper one and did not want a welded-together aluminum radiator. I looked at alternatives.

Seems that a common GM radiator which fits my '77 Camaro is of the same approximate dimensions as the factory Chrysler 26" radiator, for about 1/3rd the cost. Only thing . . . the GM radiator is a crossflow rather than vertical flow.

Another option is the radiator in late-model Challengers and Chargers. As one member in here did for a Gen III Hemi conversion on a '67 Fury III Fast Top, he just got the lower half of the radiator mount from a salvage yard car and screwed it to the back of the existing core support. Then, as the Charger cooling system uses a pressurized coolant recovery tank, he had the option of using that or adding a filler neck into the upper radiator hose.

In these two possibilities, the resultant radiator would be a composite radiator. Plastic tanks, ample trans cooler size, and a high-erriciency aluminum core. Each one quite a bit less expensive than a copper radiator and cooling much better. Just have to make it attach well.

@Ccas is correct regarding the benefits and detractors for multi pass radiators.

I would suspect that you’re going to get a 25-35% improvement for a cross flow dual pass radiator. Triple pass would add another 10% improvement.

I’ve been out of fluid dynamics way too long to calculate the improvement, so those numbers are my gut feeling.
 
So if we look at the same core size 22x18 for example for either radiator, the dual crossflow will cool substentially better than the same size downflow? I read 10 to 20° so would my running temp really drop from 195 to 175- 180??? I am planning on moving the transmission cooler out of the radiator, how much difference could that make?
