Edelbrock 1406

The last couple of these Performer series carbs I’ve bought both say warranty void if run with anything over 10% ethanol.

Not to hijack this thread but right now my 1406 is giving me fits. It's on my '67 Imperial. Running rich as all get out. It runs rich with the screws in any position. I had the top off and adjusted the floats to 7/16 ths hang down but it stills seems to be flooding /running rich. Choke is operating perfectly.
Any suggestions?

So, Zach how have they been running lately?

Well, both the Cordoba, and truck 440 are obviously gone..

But the one on the Monaco has been doing good! Granted I don’t have a ton of miles on it, but have not had any problems. I do get a bit of heat soak with it, but I expect it now lol

This is exactly what I went through with the one on the truck. The SOB ran rich no matter what I did. It got very old.

I read on another forum, that it may be getting too mich fuel pressure. Believe it was rated for 6 pounds of pressure if I remember right. Guys on other forums were installing regulators, and seemed to be having success with em.

I just put the Edelbrock intake and 1406 on mine a few weeks back, so far so good.. sorry! No input for your problems Kenny.. maybe call Edelbrock Tech line and see what they say!..

Any enthusiast who is expecting any carburetor to run perfectly on their engine with no adjustments better have a low bar for performance. That's just not how carburetors work.
You buy them. You put it on your engine, in your environment. You put your fuel in it. And then you tune it to work properly. If it worked great you got lucky, it was good enough to satisfy you, or you don't know how "good" good can be. I find as years go by #3 is more common.

ALso - while E-85 is a blend, it has a lot more ethanol in it than the up to 10% most pump fuel includes these days. You don't void the warranty with the 10% stuff. And that's because E85 and higher concentrations of ethanol are extremely corrosive. So you basically need to upgrade the fuel system and re-tune to run them on an older car. E85 isn't so bad. But ethanol by itself is nasty stuff because it absorbs water and the parts rust.

Maybe I exaggerated a bit...

I think I might have it sorted... pulled the dip stick and once again there was gas in the oil about 2" over filled after about 20 minutes of run time! Ran a full pump pressure check and it was 5.5 Lbs. Pulled the fuel pump, put my fingers over both suction and pressure sides. Pumped it manually and low and behold gas came pouring out of the body where it attaches to the block! Must have been dumping gas directly into the crank case. I ordered a new pump, be here Tuesday. God I hope this is the end. I'll change the oil and filter put in the pump and we'll see.
If nothing else I've got the cleanest oil system on the planet!

I'm going to change up a little on the new engine in my NYB and going with a Holley Quick Fuel 750.

That should take care of it Kenny!

What's your thoughts on going that route instead of the Eddie?

I had good performance out of Holley 780's back in 1970's.

Very easy carb to work on.

Ease of jetting and power valve replacement.

I think I still have 4 pads with 30 jets on each from back in the day.

It did Bob. So far so good! I put the fuel pump in just now, dumped the oil and filter, put a new fuel filter in just because, and note she's running like a dream. The air mixture screws are even functioning now. No more shake at idle either. No black smoke and fires up at the bump of the starter! Ahhh... such a great feeling!

That is great news!
