This is the 1.9L TDI from a 06 VW Jetta, customer brought it in and the crankcase was full of diesel. His wife was driving it, it made some loud rattles, lost power and quit.
He brought it in to the shop, I changed the oil, filter and replaced the tandem pump. It sounded great at idle. The above pic's are the result of the test drive, it made a knock noise then it oiled down the road when it puked out #4 rod and pieces of engine block.
My customer took it really well, we figured the diesel flooding the engine did damage and I finished it.
It's back on the road now, he had another short block, I had the head checked out and put it on the good short block, swapped it out.
The auto parts didn't have enough JB weld on hand.JB Weld couldn’t fix it???
I was really bad at first, especially when I had to make the phone call. After a while the jokes started, if we want something broke they tell me to test drive it.Glad that your customer was cool.
That had to feel really awful when it happened though...
You can always count on a shop full of guys, to kick you just a little when you're down...The auto parts didn't have enough JB weld on hand.
