I have to do a Flat tappet run in on my fresh 383 in the 66 polara. does anyone have a good part# on some cheap headers that don't need "mods" to fit.
I wanted to find High performance OEM manafolds but do not know what # would fit? Chrysler 300 of the same year? your thoughts are my only hope to avoid the $850 TTI header price. let alone I want it to Look stock as much as possible.

I'd find a set of the HP manifolds personally. They look better and flow better than the logs and are durable.

If you can swing it get them ceramic coated to control the under hood heat a little better.

You need the C body specific drivers side 2863409 casting number and any 68-9 B/C body one

you also need the studs and special nuts in that link

It's distinctive and different than the b body ones

polara66hardtop and others can probably give you a lot more info on C body HP manifolds. Other C body model years will work but these would probably be closest to what you need and won't break the bank.

We dyno tested the logs against the HP exhaust manifolds and gained 4 HP. You'd be way far ahead if you could run headers.

No headers, boooooo on headers.

This is the question that I always wanted to ask. Just what is the difference in performance between the "Log" manifolds and the "HP" manifolds? So, it's a 4 horsepower gain on average?

I installed TTI's all inclusive exhaust 5 years back - still look like new. They keep the heat under the hood down quite a bit because the ceramic is coated inside and out. Before installing aluminum heads I was seriously bitched at the mounting holes on my iron heads because the bolt holes went right into the cooling jacket and to service the gaskets meant the cooling fluid had to be drained. My entire exhaust system fit like a glove and still looks new today unlike the "butcher" job some exhaust shops do. They are pricey but then again you only do it once. I'm sure there's others who make a more reasonably priced set of headers. Sanderson's look like s**t after just a couple months, Hookers seem to rot before your very eye's and the ones Dynomax make turn silly shades of colors on the bends. I'm not a big fan of the "rust" look and I have never found a paint that stays on cast iron manifolds. Just my two cents worth.

Was there a -408 casting as well, or just the -409?

I know this has been gone over before (and I'm just about to do a search), but is there a definitive list of the HP manifolds for C-Bodies by year?

Hey there, the 409 casting is for the the 67 to 69 driver side 383 and 440 HP. Tall hair is correct the Passenger side is a B and C body HP manifold. I had TTI's on a Hemi, and they were great. Also Expensive, I sold the Hemi, the TTI's, and went back to the 440 with stock HP manifolds. They are reliable and usually trouble free, and a cheaper alternative. (I have a C body drivers side I would sell). It All depends on one's pocket book. The Ceramic coated headers were remarkably cool running. After 30 minutes of Idling, I could still get under the car and adjust the transmission linkage without getting burned to death. Now TTi's on a C body,,,,Hmmmmmm. Sounds Interesting.

I just came across a manifold that looked the same to my eye, was described as a C-Body HP manifold for the driver's side, and was a 408, not a 409. Just curious if it was the wrong casting or the wrong description.
