bottom line is l wana know why my" non GT" Fury 3 has fasteners on the back of that panel when folks are telling me it shouldnt...
either their was a variation of whats being said here or facts are wrong..
just trying to find awnsers.....

My Fury III is screwed through the face. The one I had from the gt was held by studs on the back.
The finish was different in that the III. had an aluminum colored texture and the gt was just black

I don't understand this at all. I have a non-GT 70 Sport Fury. You can't see any mounting studs or holes on mine. The same could be said for my old 70 SF. I've never seen a 70 Sport Fury rear panel affixed by screws like the one photo.

k were all agreed that the 70 GTs were black and this is new info to me..thanx
....whether all had same studs on back am unshure...

the others well that's what were tryin to sort out....as for the ones with screws was under the understanding that folks use the screws when they break off the attachments on the back...
never knew there were actually oem ones that used screws to hold them on..
was going to take mine off but broke one fastener on the back so just left it as is as it was good..
worst case scenario if you were to break all the fasteners on the back of this panel would be easy to fix with WB weld and some fasteners....

CAUTION...DO NOT TIGHTEN THE NUTS ON THE BACK OF THESE PANELS TO TIGHT OR THEY WILL ACTULLY SUCK THE PANEL IN LEAVEING YOU WITH A LITTLE DIMPLE WERE THE FASTENER IS TO FIX..JUST A HEADS UP...WILL POST A PIC TOMMOROW
Tighten till its snug and leave it

panels with the screws could possibly be the early variation and the later a upgraded version but would assume the GTs would have a few with screws unless the GTs were built at a later date getting the upgraded version
When l first saw Bills vert with black one thought it had some damage and Paul had simply sprayed it black...could be Bills was replaced with a black one...will have to wait for Bill to comment on his
again am just trying to sort out the whys which is in all our benefits so we know and aren't guessing
one last thought...am assuming that's my original bumper...it may have been changed at some point and am not ruling it out just yet

I would bet this was a mid-year production change. I would be surprised if they had special panels for only GT cars especially since the same part number 2962 748 is listed in the book for all PH cars. PH covers Sport Fury, S/23, and GT cars If they're all the same part number how would the parts with studs be differentiated during production?

BTW, the black panel was used on the Sport Fury, S/23, and GT as seen in these ads on fuselage.de

That seems to be the most plausible explanation.

just curious, I've talked to Bill a few times by email. What is his convertible? Is it a Fury GT "tribute?"

I'm rather surprised but the seller actually got back to me. Based on the response it appears this is a business. We'll see if anything changes on the ad.

It will also be interesting to see if that changes his price. Haha.

Should have looked before I posted. He did indeed change the ad.

Any thoughts on the price of that? Seems to be pretty high. Then again, I guess try and find a nice one these days. Ugh.

If he gets $799 for it all I can say is "hello ebay!" Gonna dump a few of them. Will even go $50 cheaper than him

yea, it seems I've seen the comparable 69 Fury part considerably less expensive but I don't know if I've seen any 70's. The advantage that this can be painted and used on a SF would probably increase the price. It will be interesting. If I couldn't find one and needed it for my resto and hadn't been able to find one in 1+ years, I'd probably consider it.

Yet another advantage of this site. We don't have to wait for things to pop on ebay, we can post on here because often another member will have one in their stash.

Bills (Fury440) car is a Fury 3...hes not the tribute sorta fella....all 70 converts were Fury 3s from what Bill has told me and the ones with 440s are fairly rare with around a dozen known to date
Know he changed front grill to a hidden headlight setup and he probably replaced the back panel as well at some point with a NOS one hes picked up in his wanderins on ebay
