Hi
I have a '65 Dodge Polara station wagon with 383/A/C etc
it has a new power booster and master cylinder, installed by previous owner-when you touch the brakes it locks up all 4 wheels -no in between braking. idea's?
geri

Not nearly enough info.
Impossible to even start thinking about troubleshooting
without knowing more.
Pics of the booster, master cylinder are mandatory to know what we are starting with. Were the brakes done?
Lines?
Proportioning valve?
Or Distribution valve?
The guy could have bungled the job with the wrong or defective parts and/or they were installed incorrectly.

Pics please.

Now somebody is going to offer advice using the Throwing Jello Onto The Wall And See What Sticks method . . .

I'm with Commando we need more information.

Is it all drums? Someone prior to me put the wrong master cylinder on my car. The guys here figured it out because I posted pictures.

To reiterate what Commando said what all was replaced? Lines, hoses, wheel cylinders...

We're more than willing to help, but we need a lot more info.

I dont have a camera (broke) I finally got to drive the car more than a few feet and its just the right front locking up, that should be easier to repair.

commando1 , how set is the jello , could make alot of adhesion difference . have you tried any of the set times your self , lol . but back to the brakes , could be just an adjustment on the pushrod , or a junk booster .

Leaking wheel cylinder coating the brake shoes creating instant lock up.....or jello locked

ya , jello is some sticky stuff , man . but back to brakes , had a guy use dot 5 fluid and it swelled up the piston cups rubber seals in the wheel cylinders that were older ones , the rubber in new stuff in better for that dot 5 . dot 4 is the best you need , but if they used dot 5 , wash it clean . the whole system ! and replace all the rubber seals . if not dot 5 , check that wheel cylinder for leaks and maybe the spring kits are not doing there job , keeping that wheel cylinder from re-tracking all the way .

I got to drive it farther than the driveway and found the locking is only in the right front -so it should be easy to repair, I thought I'd pop off the hubcap and drive a different car alongside it, every vehicle I get has bad brakes, why me?
the trans cable needs adjustment as well, when in reverse its trying to engage park,I can move the lever slightly toward neutral and stop the click. this was fun in '63 or so now its just dirty work, broken nails and bad attitude.

luckily I have a box full of return springs and adjusting hardware

i like 65 dodge looks , i own a 65 880 rag since @1984 . bought it from the original owner , she knew all the cars and there colors and why she pick it , she inter-viewed me prior to even looking at the car . then had her son show me the car . guess she did not want to see it go .

I think I'll change the brakes

I just got this car- the former owner stated he'd replaced the booster and master cylinder- they are new, I don't think he got into the wheels, he said he thought it had air -needed to be bled. its a drum brake '65 Monaco wagon (for sale) beings I didn't see the power booster he removed I cannot compare to what it should be. the single line master cylinder is correct.
as I did get to drive it around the block -after I sent the first question-the severe braking is only at the right front wheel, I'll address that and see what I find. thanks for the input.

ya if it stays locked could be the hose , if so crack the breeder on the wheel cylinder . if it turns free than the hose is not returning the fluid .
