One of the body shops that the other guy's insurance company recommended to "fix the damage" on my NYB accident asked me if I wanted a quote to repaint the entire car and new vinyl. I almost fell down when he said $20k and that wasn't even for a rotisserie paint.

He seemed baffled when I told him I could buy 3 rust free, turn key, low mileage NYB's from out west for $20k. That is the day that the NYB turned into a coast to coast daily driver.

this is my pleasure car (as my insurance calls it) and my happy place. i'm going to have fun with my car and enjoy the hell out of it... currently i want to do it all, all at the same time O_O

found the source/problem of the leak. the seam sealer on the over laping joint on the rear fender-panel back there failed

the p.i.t.a. part of it is getting to the underneath side right next to the trunk hinges and t-bars...


so how should i tackle his problem. rust removal product, and seam sealer or bondo?

Are you talking about the trunk lip at the corner?
If so, I have a solution for you...

That rust looks nasty. I can just tell you, rust repair is time consuming, doing it right and fitting sheet metal and so on takes a long time and if you think about ...idk 100$/h that adds up rather quickly. I have done rust repair myselfe and just replacing some floorboards on another car took at least 20 hours doing right... then say 5000 or so for a full paintjob and you are at 12k.

The areas in the pic, I would wirewheel all that and if there are no holes, put sealant in there, prime it and enjoy. Justtry to keep it from spreading.

i'm gonna get a couple of these panels after i move in a couple of weeks... most definitely the way to go to get it fixed! just going to temp fix it so it doesn't leak for the moment...
