Finally my own '70 Sport Fury GT

Cam slammed in for good with copious amounts of Isky moly lube.

Came to the conclusion that I wasnt gonna be able to finish porting & having the original 906 machined in time to remotely have a chance of making Carlisle this year. Splurged on a set of Stealth heads (hence the cam upgrade) and had 440 Source perform their 3 angle valve job that offer on their website, upgrade the seals & swapped in 10* locks/retainers. Also used their head gaskets and picked up some 6pt ARP head bolts.

Cool!!!!!!!!!! The 69 500 440 car iiac.....

That it be. Too cool of a car (and my favorite year Polara) to see it get parted out.

What do they have for head gaskets? Years ago when I got my set of heads from them, they told me to go with the blue felpros for a .039 compressed height.
They're greyish black but similar to the felpros. Might be Victor gaskets repackaged by 440 Source.. No markings on them whatsoever.

Took forever cleaning the crude off the original rocker assemblies & pushrods to reuse. Made sure to knock the plugs out of the shafts and run a brush through them as well before reassembling & installing them.

Pickup tube cleaned & installed. New Summit Racing pan gasket windage tray. Hopefully the last time I see the bottom end of this 440 for a long time.

Attempted to clean the coked on crude under the valvecovers but wasnt satisfied with the results. Ended up cutting the baffles out to give them a thorough cleaning and while they were out I had dad blast them at work for me. One more cleaning and then the baffels were tack welded back in place.

Had a new Melling oil pump on the shelf but then I found on Summit that they also sell just the rebuild kit. Figured I'd try that out and retain my nice original Pentastar/DCPD housing. Had the housing sand blasted, rinsed in gasoline (aka cheapest parts cleaner lol) then a soak in Evaporust before another good rinse in brake cleaner. Everything in the Melling rebuild kit seem to fit perfectly.

Old guts on the right, new on the left:

What comes in the Melling kit:

Pump assembled with fresh 30w oil. Spins smoothly and squirted oil out:

Replace the steel core plugs that the machine shop installed with some brass ones:

Picked up a Mopar Performance M1 dual plane intake which is basically a copy of the original iron one. Figure with the aluminum heads I might as well get an aluminum intake to match. I ground off the Mopar logo that was in your face to make it a little more "stealthy". Also picked up a reproduction of the intake manifold insulator/sound deadening that sits between the valley pan & intake from Bill Rolik.

Engines pretty much assembled at this point. New gates water pump. Had to leave a few of the spark plug wire brackets & shields off since they didnt work with the Stealth heads but everything else I tried to make as correct appearing as possible. Even went out of my way to get correct original fuel pump bolts from another '70 Newark built New Yorker parts car my friend had since the ones that came on the GT were mix matched random bolts.

Been almost a year since I updates on this. Lost a bunch of pictures from my phone while transferring them to a new SIM card months back. Finally got them recovered and on my new phone. So here's some more progress from almost a year ago.

Picked up a can of correct Corprate Blue engine paint from Frank Balson as per Rocket Restos recommendation and had Steve spray it on just like the factory.

The paint laid down very nicely. 1 can is enough to do 2 engines.

Cleaned up and painted brackets & pulleys. Add some crayon scribble marks to the valve covers using the codes from the broadcast sheet. And in it went.

Got the original starter cleaned and rebuilt. Found another alternator to get restored (keeping the original on the self). New repro battery cable and transmission cooler lines.

Put the original on the self. Some day I'll look into replace the bushing and restoring the mount if possible.

Coming back from picking up my '69 L-code Polara 500 I stopped at Summit Racing in Ohio and bought a new 800cfm AVS-2 carb for the car.

Great carburetor choice for it, we got 2 and we love em. Their good runners. Mr. Steve did a phenomenal job on painting the engine, the engine and everything else is comin along really nicely. Great work, and I can’t wait to see it done!

Did I miss somethin? I didn’t know you had that car. I know you got the GT here, the gold convertible, and the blue 4-door sedan 440 hi-po car.
Hi, I read your complete thread, wish I had your talent, What is your "blue 4 door sedan HP car? Any chance I can get some details and pix? thanks-you Mike
