Formal A/C Condenser Dilemma...

Well......finally got around to putting the new condenser in the NYB tonight. Brackets lined up perfect. Note...the new condenser came with new mounting brackets....they are actually riveted to the condenser instead of the screws. Receiver/drier and A/C lines all bolted up perfectly. I didn't finish...I still have to put the grills back on, vac it down, and charge it up. I'll get back on it sometime tomorrow morning.

So far......so good!!!

No, it was pretty dark. Working with a drop light last night. I'll take a couple of pictures today.

Glad to hear something went smoothly on one of these cars for a change.

"Jeeeze. And it even bolted right in..."

The "only problem" so far was the clip nut that slides over the condenser bracket that receives the mounting bolt through the core support had to be held in place while the bolt(s) was started. I probably could of glued them in place or maybe squeezed them a little to make them tighter to stay in place.

AHA!! SO IT'S NOT OEM> LMAO.

Just kidding, Bob. If that was the biggest problem, then you're way ahead of the game.

I was concerned about fitment of the brackets after you mentioned that a few days ago. I talked to the guys at the condenser store when I ordered it and told them if it wasn't an exact factory fit, tell me now, because I will send it back. They assured me it will install without any mods. And it did. Even the inlet and outlet tubes were dead on and it even came with green O-rings.

Finished up the A/C on the NYB tonight.

A+ rating on the condenser.......it was an exact fit. Vacuumed the system down for an hour and no leaks. I charged it up with 36 oz of R134A plus a 3 oz charge of ester oil. 30 on the low side and 195 on the high side, no bubbles in the sight glass and 40 DEGREE's at the center vent. I'm satisfied....mission complete!

Sounds like you got the same condenser that I mentioned...exact replacement. Congrats!

Good jod, Bob.

Thanks guys!

I couldn't believe how many damn bolts held the hood catch/latch assembly in!!!! I even had to take both grills out (again) to get to some of those bolt.

Those Formals are built like a tank. LOL!!!
