the previous owner of my '68 300 convertible replaced the carpet. The rear seat belts are in place. The front seat belts(lucky for me) were in a bag in the trunk, under the spare tire. There are bolts, but no nuts. I looked under the car and I don't see a hole where a bolt would come through like the seats. Under the carpet are there holes that are self- threaded or has a welded in bolt? Thanks

On my 1970 fury convertible there are threaded holes on the transmission tunnel and along the side of the car. The bolts for the ones on the side go in horizontally and I don't think visible from underneath.

I'm inclined to agree with Jeff on this. At least in my 68 NYer. There isn't a nut that you have to worry about putting a wrench on. I've had the front center bolts out with in the last year to add a third belt, but I'm drawing a blank right now as to if I saw it.

I used a pin, then an awl, then a soldering iron to find and make the holes in the carpet.

Well that sounds like it would be a time saver. I was thinking of taking off the sill plate and rolling back the carpet to look for those holes. Thanks.

Look under the car along the trans tunnel. There should be a reinforcement plate that's welded to the tunnel. That's where the hole should be. Next, take an awl and punch through the center of the hole from the bottom. Go back inside the car and locate the awl. Take some chalk and draw a circle around the awl. Then take a box cutter with a new blade and cut an "X" in the center of the hole. Make sure you cut all the way down to the metal floor. Need to cut past the jute. Once that's done take your seat belt bolt and run it into the hole insuring that the threads have fully engaged. At that point mount your belt. Do you have the correct seatbelt bolts?

dunno if it is different in 68 fury fast top bench seat, but I had 2 spots on xmission tunnel, and then 2 on the doorsill frame area below the bottom of the door line, right down at the floor almost. if you dont see them, look more towards the rear. they sit pretty far back.

its some bigass bolt too and prolly grade 5 or 8.

Thanks for the advice. Got the retractors installed . Took off the sill plate, rolled back the carpet and found the holes. With your advice I went right to the garage. Found the holes in the transmission tunnel. Will put those in tomorrow! I have the C10 bolts, they were in a bag with the seat belts under the spare tire. Will try not to die.

Bolts are specific for seat belts. They are resistance fit so they won't back out. Seatbelt bolts have shallow heads and stamped C-11 and C-12
