Does anyone know of a shop in MD that will clean and coat fuel tanks?

Unless your tank is just dirty, you would be better served to buy a new replacement unit. The stuff that is used to coat the inside of tanks has an annoying habit of coming loose and making an even bigger mess that you started with. Many C-Body tanks are now being reproduced.

Tried repairing three pin holes on the top of mine. Then, I looked carefully at the rest of the tank. I ended up buying a new one. I just didn’t think patching up a 50 year old tank was a good idea.
If it is available and in the budget I would buy a new tank. That being said mine was rusty inside, but not leaking. 6 years ago a new tank wasn't available. I cleaned mine out as best as possible and used Red Kote, 6 years later and around 11,000 miles no issues and haven't even had to replace a fuel filter.
Every situation is different, but if it isn't leaking something to consider.
FYI if you decide to change the sending unit make sure you keep the original retaining ring. The new ones are 100% crap and will leak because it doesn't seat tight enough.

Fought the problem for years. Three coatings and finally found a new tank which is now being re-manufactured, 65 Sport Fury, and problem solved! My advice, buy a new tank and move on.

Make sure you have new j bolts, straps and the rubber collar, too. My j bolts were rusted beyond hope. So, I was sitting with a new fuel tank and waiting on j bolts to arrive.
It’s a quick and easy job dropping the tank. I went ahead and cleaned out the tank vent tubes and replaced the rubber on them where they mate to the tank. Ditto for fuel line rubber.
Only issue I had was lining up the rubber and lock ring. I had a leak. Took 5 minutes to redo and get it right.

I agree regarding the straps and J-bolts. You might also (if it's available) get a new mat to sit on top of the tank, so the tank doesn't squeak or rub a hole in itself against the floor pan.
