Fought the problem for years. Three coatings and finally found a new tank which is now being re-manufactured, 65 Sport Fury, and problem solved! My advice, buy a new tank and move on.Does anyone know of a shop in MD that will clean and coat fuel tanks?
Makes sense. New tank seems like the best option. Thanks guys.
Make sure you have new j bolts, straps and the rubber collar, too. My j bolts were rusted beyond hope. So, I was sitting with a new fuel tank and waiting on j bolts to arrive.
It’s a quick and easy job dropping the tank. I went ahead and cleaned out the tank vent tubes and replaced the rubber on them where they mate to the tank. Ditto for fuel line rubber.
Only issue I had was lining up the rubber and lock ring. I had a leak. Took 5 minutes to redo and get it right.
