Fuse Block 65 New Yorker

Yesterday, I checked out my fuse block in the 65 NYer. The terminals are all rusted, and it appears that the fuses may be rusted in.
Thought about hitting them with some penetrating oil, but I have an appointment for windshield replacement on Tuesday and I don't want to miss it because I do something stupid.

2 questions,

Should I try some penetrating oil?

Any place where I can find a new or good used one?

Any help of advice will be appreciated, thank you, Boyd

Wait until after your windshield replacement.

The fusebox comes off with that big screw, and is more easily serviceable.

Disconnect your battery first.

Each tab will come out by using a small jeweller's screwdriver to bend the tabs that hold it into the fusebox. Remove each and use Emery cloth or a wire brush to clean them up.

If any are suspect, you can buy new terminals on eBay.

Note that there is also a plastic water shield that clips into the upper side of the fusebox.
Wait until after you have removed the box from the dashboard frame before you try to remove the water shield, and take care as you do so because it will be very brittle. You do not want to lose that if possible.

Will do. Already felt a tab at the engine side top of the block. They needed one on the bottom too!

I just came in from working on the fuse block in my Newport. I wrapped some fine sandpaper around the handle of a dental pick...(it is just slightly smaller in diameter than a fuse. I forced it in between the contacts (where the fuse sits), rotated it several times, and cleaned up the corroded contacts. Only a single contact pair can be cleaned at a time and the fuse box has to be hanging free so that the tool can be angled, from the opposite side, as close to parallel in order to match how a fuse would sit in between the contacts. I can take some pictures if it would help. ***I did make sure I had my battery disconnected before doing this.

I will give it a try. Thinking about some chop sticks with fine paper. May have to sand the chop stick ends down a little bit but cannot wait to see what works in there. Just have to get that windshield done first.

The mangled hole on the left of the fuse holder was a surprise from previous owner who drilled up through the bottom of the dash to mount a temp gauge.

worse case fuse box terminals are available from AMS obsolete in Georgia... the guys who wound up with Frank Mitchell's stuff...

Borrow your friend's Dremel tool with the right angle drive and the small sanding drum. Replace with new fuses and you're ready to roll.
