I just got my headlight motor back from topher for my 68 300, my question is, is there a certain way to put it back in so the doors open like they should. Everything was powered down when I took it off so doors are open now. It looks like there is a 2 marks on it that are lined up. Should I shut the doors and than run the rod through and hook it all back leaving the marks lined up? This is a first time task for me!

The FSM would have more/better info but my experience rebuilding mine was pretty straightforward. I don't recall having to line anything up other than making sure that the motor was in the same position (open/closed) as the headlight covers when connecting the rods between the motor and the cover.

So if the headlight covers are open, make sure the motor is in the open position when you slide the rod in. Then connect the rod back to the headlight cover. I don't think they can go in the wrong way since the slot and rod isn't perfectly square.

I would also make sure the wiring to the motor is in good shape and not corroded. Bad wiring can put extra stress on the motor. Good luck, it is very satisfying having working headlight covers!
