Heavy Metal

My 01 Eldo. It got to be a money pit, but I really liked it. The pics don't do the white pearl paint justice.

oh, i know that paint well. beautiful ...expensive (as the manufacturer, it was pricier than all the other paints but one).

by 01 we fixed the NorthStar headbolt issue BUT these cars had high warranty (i dont recall them all, ride control was one, electronics issues, and one more escapes me ...). so yeah, if it went outta warranty during you're ownership it was a money pit.

i had many E-bodies (they got approved on my watch, tho i wasnt a BOSS at the time) as company cars .. liked 'em all :)

We had bought the car used in 04 and it was a "certified" car with an extended warranty. 100K miles/7 years. That meant we had a 70k/4 year warranty from when we bought it. We hit the time limit on the warranty and the car just went to crap. The dealer (the only game in town) was horrible and actually damaged my car and one of our company GMC vans. It had electronic issues and HVAC issues. The first couple years were great and I loved the car, but it just didn't age well.

Those were very nice, crappy cars... A good friend had one, she is now dealing with maintenance of an MB product... which so far has actually been cheaper for her, what a shame.

Superfly, eat your heart out. :)

Source: The world's most coolest Cadillac with 8 wheels

The Best Cadillac in Australia is having 8 tandem wheels. The Cadillac Eldorado Custom Biarritz double steering wheel was made in 1977. The presence of the world's largest Cadillac revealed in an exhibition at an auction event in Melbourne, Australia, which was held till February 17, 2016.

The car came from Texas to Australia in the 1980s and immediately began to convert it into an eight-wheeler using Holden One Tonner ute tandem axles, at the same time leaving the Cadillac front-wheel driven (with all four front wheels steering) and left-hand drive.

This sedan also once used in the film 'Dallas'. Many things can be done with a car which is powered 425 V8 180 hp engine. This car has 6 exhaust pipe connected to the back of the sedan. An in-dash television, CCTV camera mounted in the right front fender, whiskey bar in the trunk, strobe lighting, train horns, and six exhaust pipes round out the modifications.

In the lengthened section between the back glass and the full-size trunk lid he added a two-person hot tub. The stretched body panels to cover the stretched chassis were reportedly done in sheetmetal rather than fiberglass. And in 1999, the Cadillac then went to a Melbourne-based owner who apparently felt that an eight-wheeled Seventies Cadillac required even more to stand out from the crowd.

In the lengthened section between the back glass and the full-size trunk lid he added a two-person hot tub, while under the lengthened hood in the empty space between radiator and engine he added a propane grill that cantilevers out for barbies at the car show.

Australia eh? Now I see their motivation to make Mad Max movies. HA!

I'd be curious to know what caused the crank to wear out. Some very talented riggers on that crew.

I think they just have a schedule for major work like that.

Source: MS Zaandam

Propulsion on the MS Zaandam is provided by five medium-speed, four-stroke Sulzer 12ZAV40S diesel engines. Each engine has an output of 8,640kW at 514rpm. Each of Zaandam’s engines drives a three phase synchronous 10,500kVA alternator, providing power at 6.6kW. The ship is propelled by two synchronous electric propulsion motors, each driving a shaft line with a CP propeller. The vessel has a services speed of 20.2 knots at 85% MCR.

Zaklady Urzadzen Technicznych (ZUT) "Zgoda" in Swietochlowice, Poland, have obtained licence for production of various 4-stroke, medium speed engines of Z40/48, ZA40 and ZA40S series from Sulzer Brothers Ltd., later New Sulzer Diesel and then Wartsila.

Old, but constantly modernized well proven design, reliability and ease of maintenance has made them very popular in many applications.

  • ZA40S series: cylinder diameter 400mm, stroke: 560mm, speed 500-600 RPM, fuel: HFO
  • Power output: 660 and 720 kW/cyl
  • This series has reduced fuel consumption and increased power output, compared to previous versions. Produced in many variants for marine and stationary applications.
  • Types built in Poland:
    • 6ZA40S, 8ZA40S
    • 12ZAV40S, 16ZAV40S.

learned two things, and need a third explained if anyone knows..

1. F35 looks like a bad-a** plance.
2. never saw a "ski jump" runway appliance.

oh, why is the "hood" up on the plane at takeoff .. doesnt that create drag?

Ten minutes of big engine startups. We have a few of these vid's here, but this one it newer .. only six months old .. and has a few startup we didnt put here.

NSFW, so play it loud when you can to get the essence of what's happening .. lotta weird sounds i dont recognize. whining, burping, squealing, etc.

aside: is it just me, or is some of of this stuff scary as hell? You can see people around scattering, jumpy, looking antsy in a few of these.

In a past life I stood in the Christmas Tree area between two top fuel dragsters from burnout to launch: one of the most FRIGHTENING but THRILLING things I have ever done .. good thing i was wearing dark colored pants else my fear woulda shown :)

I never get tired of these .. heck, the truck in the left lane (maroon color) even races a Vette and and GT500 (both stock likely, but still a car vs a big rig).

why I was the only "suit" in my accounting firm who liked tractor pulls. :)

No humans were harmed in these blowups/mishaps .. but a lotta "heavy metal" got ruined. i dunno how average folks can afford this sport.

about the one minute mark (and elsewhere), there's one with cherry red exhausts .. so you know it can't end well.

Kudos to the first ol guy starting the Merlin... he didn't appear to need to change his shorts... the second one, somebody had to throw away their underwear. the third, in the aircraft, seemed almost tame by comparison.

IDK where this happened. I have a friend who is a bit older than myself, who was once into the truck pull scene. He claims that at certain events, he was able to register above the class of his milder build, and would do so if the class was light on entries. He claims to have stolen the prize money a couple of times, when the legit entries blew up at the line and he moved the sled farther... I have no reason to doubt him, and he always spoke with amusement of how pissed off the other owners were where he did this.

I was only mildly amused by these pulling events, but they made good TV when nothing else interested me.

ENgine shredding machines.

on the second one, this SSI outfit has several of these "infomercials" on youtube shredding all kinda stuff. Good marketing.

Thats a neat truck.

Nope, do not have this one .. Wow. Will investigate. thanks!

Article says it might be (after Holman-Moody bought it) at Ford's Dearborn Proving Grounds rotting away to this day .. I will have to "rustle the leaves" with my few remaining Ford contacts and see :)

Maybe it needs to be in Ok You Truckers thread too? The thing is turbine-powered (600HP) no less .. and white letter tires?? COuple vids. cool, short too.
