Hi Everyone!

Ross, that was an outstanding conversion. The only obstacle was me unfairly breaking your nuts.

Some updates to the 55 windsor

I wanted to incorporate rack and pinion steering into the 55 but needed to find a rack that would fit the 55. I came across a 1981 nissan maxima rack that had the perfect measurements. Now we just needed to figure out a way to hold the rack in place and not have it look hideous. I think if you look at the pictures you will see what we came up with, I do not think it looks to bad at all. If we paint it red it just might look like a popular brand.

Now we disassembled the magnum interior and I wanted to see if the magnum dash would fit in the 55. As you can see from the pics that it does fit with a little modification from the side tabs and as well as removing a piece from the original dash vents. I will post more pics along the way. We are currently working on the floors and figuring out a way to tie in the magnum drive shaft with the windsor rear.

Mind boggling to me. Thanks for the updates and keep them coming.

Lookin' good Salem7_10. What issuez did you run into with the difference in the windshield and cowl curvature? I stuffed an '89 LeBaron "J" body into an '83 Plymouth Scamp pickup "L" body just to gain the digital dash and the curvature waz my biggest hurdle. That and hackin' 2 1/2"s off both endz of the dash and fabin' new end capz to conceal the carnage. Keep the pix comin', I'm really likin' your project, and I can relate, Jer

I cannot believe how well you fitted that dash to the car.
Quite shocked, really.
Saying merely, Great Job doesn't do it justice.

Thanks BIGBARNEYCARS for the comments!
As for issues with matching it up, there was really only 2 that popped up. One of them you can see in the pictures of the original dash defroster vents. We had to modify a little to have the dash match perfectly. As for the little tabs on the side of magnum dash (see in pics), of coarse had to snip those off. For the most part it really matched up well.
@BIGBARNEYCARS
Sounds like you had an interesting project with your dash and can understand the difficulties along the way to get the finished product.

@detmatt - Thanks for the comments

@Commando1 - Thank you, I appreciate your comments

As things progress, I will continue to post pics/updates along the way.

Wow, that's impressive. I wish I had 1/10th of your ambition. Look forward to seeing the progress.

@LocuMob - I really appreciate your comment. It is always nice when things line up like you want them too!

@53ryder - It really is not that much. The time is the most critical part of the budget. The 2005 is supplying the biggest part of the budget. I am looking at selling off the parts that I am not using. I am sure someone out there is in need of some body panels that I am not using on the 2005 magnum.

Please keep the comments coming as I am sure everyone has an idea or comment about the project along the way. That is what I am hoping for! Something that is different and has not been done before can only hope for different points of view.

Thanks again for all the input!

Update

Wow, it has been a long time since I posted any updates on the '55 project. How time flies when you are working and doing the family vacations. Project is still moving along slowly, but will update with pics in a few.

Framing out dash.jpg

We started to frame out the dash with the same support bars from the magnum. Everything was going good until we started to match up the air condition from the magnum. We realized we did not have enough room to accommodate the unit, but I really wanted the "55 to have air conditioning. We came up with a solution

Impressive! Looks like a really fun project.

Of coarse by doing this it leaves a big hole that needs to be filled in. We started framing everything in and realized that now would be a good time to put the cowl vent hood to use. We are going to use it for what it was made for a fresh air inlet. So we started framing in a passage way from the vent hood to the hook up for the air condition at the far right hand side.
