Hood Scoop for 67 Newport Sedan

lol, I figured I would get a lot of people telling me not to cut up the hood. That's why im considering all routes first and trying to figure out what would fit the contours of my hood. I may look for another hood somewhere to mess with first, but I have learned Newport parts aren't easy to come by. I love the scoop slantsix posted. Would that fit the contour of my hood or would I need a body man to do that one for me?

My issue with scoops on a slab (I'm just going to stick with slabs though this applies in one way or another to any c-body) is that they generally have a sharp crease up the center of the hood. Scoops wind up looking like bad septum piercings:

That's the WO/RO scoop for B bodies, it works on my Polara, that's all I can verify. Most scoops will look out of place. I went so far as to make a cardboard template to see if it was even close.

Do yall know if anyone makes a hood with something along the lines of a ram air hood that's not as drastic as a scoop but still could funnel into the breather? Im wanting to do a mild build with this car. Any other suggestions are fine too.

Realistically, why do you want more air in the breather? From the sound of it you're a long way from needing any more than originally provided, and any "mild" build won't need extra either. Why not wait until you've installed a fire breathing 1150 HP 426 Hemi under that hood - when that's done you will need some extra air and no one is gonna fuss about your induction setup much. Most of us have seen folks that get an idea then build it backwards, and if/when the idea stalls out the only thing they've accomplished is to totally waste the original materials, (i.e. chop/channel/cut/butcher original sheet metal), and then wonder why nobody else has their same vision and they can't sell it for a bazillion bucks or for that matter even give it away to the scrap collector. That's part of why no one's on board with the scoop crappola.

If you must,,Then go with Slantsix suggestion. this is a 65 Plymouth A 990 style. Cost is about $200+ shipping. Several Mopar vendors sell them. the 66-67 RO cars are similar.

im just looking to the future as for the motor breathing. Right now its going to be a mild build. Cam, intake 4 barrel carb. Later im going to do a stroker kit on the 383 and do some major upgrades. For now I guess ill take the advice and leave well enough alone though. I appreciate the help and I do like that scoop on the Plymouth.

Years ago (no digital pictures) I used a shirt box as a base, and made my own out of fiberglass. It looked a little like the SS scoop, but more rounded top with a center post visible, and widening and tapering as it went back. It was only about 2" tall, and I cut a hole in the hood, and used the piece as a cable operated flapper door to feed cold air when I wanted. The air cleaner sealed to the hood with a flange on the underside.
