How rare is it?

very interesting......not loaded, but has a nice combo of options and a few rare ones........I'll bet this car was special ordered by the dealership. early car too, oct 6th.

thanks for sharing the pic....

You mean November 6th. Thats not an early car, early would be August or perhaps 1st week of September but not November.

I havent......that tag is all over the map. The codes should be in alpha order after the V3W and why was the car built in Jefferson? I thought ALL 1970 c body convertibles were built in Belvedere. No C55 code for the buckets but a C16 console code?

in the decoder i use, c16 means buckets and console. i haven't seen any car yet that has both codes

I do own the car and as of right now it is not for sale.... Doesn't mean it won't be soon. I joined this sight to get info on the cars options etc. any info will be appreciated. The 300 is not my usual thing but I respect it for what it is....a very cool and luxurious part of mopar history.......Thanks.[/QUOTE]

Thanks for clearing the air..... And congradulations on aquiring such a cool car. Over here we think a lot of our big C bodys, and a 70 300 convertible is near the top of the heap for most of us. Were hungry for pic's and info on finds like your car. Then seeing it offered to a gentleman in Germany on another site was a bit upsetting, (to me anyways). I apoligize for any innuendo.

In regards to the core support tag, The assembly plants all had their own policys on what got stamped into them. Some were very sparse and others used two or more tags to include everything. It appears to have a small additional tag attached, similar to mine. It was determined here that it is likely an off line inspection tag. Being an early build car might effect whats on the tag also.

A build sheet would be great, likely under the passenger seat cushion.

Good luck with the 300 and post as many pictures as you like. (We like pictures).

It does appear to be an interesting car. When can we see more of it?

I will post more pics. when I get a chance to get it out of the garage. This car is a true barn find.....it has only been driven about 4000 miles since 1975 so there is a lot of cleaning to do right now. What is an offline inspection tag? Did they pull it off the line for a random q.c. check? The small tag attached to the fender is stamp B1 was that the inspector?

cpuple more pics.

I do have a couple pics. of the seats after I pulled them out to clean them

I have a tag like that attached to the code tag on my 69. It has a stamped symble that looks like a martini glass and the number 16 stamped into the code tag near the mounting screw. We had conversation about it here, (I couldn't locate the thread) and most agreeded that it indicated a inspector/line mechanic in production repair or correction.

If the rest of the interior looks like that seat it must be a beauty....... We need lots of pictures.....!!!!!!

Something is :dontknow:.............................:thinker:

Yes I agree...Very odd tag. Doesn't follow any of the regular guidelines they used. Doesn't look like it has been a reproduction tag...it has aged perfectly with the rest of the car. Maybe someone was drunk, or had a bad hangover, the day they stamped that one out.

100_4747.jpgThese tags are often not in the correct order...here's a pic i took a few days ago on one on a 69 newport.......same all over the place look, out of alphabetical order, etc. I have another pic of a '70 300 tag somewhere, it's the same darn way, will post it if i can find it. i think it's only like this with the 300s/newports though.

The extra tag and the #16 stamped above the mounting screw is just like my tag. That inspector must have been busy that year.

1969 was the first year the tag code format like this was applied. Every assembly plant seems to have had their own interpretation about how to stamp them.

I have seen tags stamped with both C16 and C55.
I think the bucket seats and console were a package in 68, then in 69 the seats were standard in the 300 but the console, (or buddy seat C21),was optional. The bucket seat code is part of the trim level code. If a Newport was equipped with bucket seats and console then both codes, (C16 & C55), would usually appear on the tag.

well, in '69 ,looks like they were all made in jefferson (if i am correct, 'C' was the jefferson, mi plant), and it would make sense that the cars that were made in one plant were all made in that same plant the next year. BTW, when i say 'they', i am talking abt 300/newport ragtops, the polaras look to all be made @ belvedere. I don't know abt the furys.

Does anybody know what the c11 and c41 codes on my fender tag are? Used a decoder and it said they were unknown..... Thanks.

I see a C16 = console ....B41 = Front disc brakes with standard rear drum and G11= tinted glass

Thanks

Ya...he misread it.... Thanks. I got a new sign today what do ya guys think?

Got a better shot or a larger one of the third pic? From that size it looks to me like there's some body work there that's going to need to be redone.

Thanks for that info...very neat to have other tags as proof of contrary to the "Norm". So much for Galens all knowing reputation....:icon_winkle:
