Does anyone know if '69 b body HP exhaust manifolds might fit into a formal at all? I've seen plenty of talk about em for slabs, and fuseys.. But no formal talk. Have a line on a set, but not sure if I should go for em or not..

Thanks in advance

I'm thinking Stan would know the answer to this.

I asked this same question years ago. Nobody could tell me.
So, I'm still.... :icon_scratch:
I'll defer to Mr. C, Mike, or Bob.

Once again Formals are a mystery because hardly anyone appreciates them or restores them. I cannot say definitively if b body stuff would work. I can only say that I think they SHOULD work. Possible interference areas would be tied to the angle of the exhaust flange.

My cars are stockers and have factory manifolds on them.

I have stock manifolds on mine. Mike might have HP manifolds.....

Mike what manifolds did that 1977 HP440 motor have on it?

They had their own HP manifolds on them, didnt they? MUCH different than a 70-71 C body and of course different than a B body.

If they changed so much as a threaded NPT hole for some smog device, the damn things got a new part number. There's a ton of interchangabilty that no one knows about.

My right side manifold has that NPT threaded hole on the rear of the manifold with a tube and a check valve that went to the bottom of the stock air cleaner.

Yea the formals had their own HP manifolds.. But finding them might be a pain. I talked to mike over the phone last night briefly about exhaust. But didnt find out about the b body manifolds till later on. If they are cheap enough might have to try it. I think they will work.. The only bad spot looks like it would be the steering shaft/column.

Would i notice much difference over logs? I really want the hookers, but having a hard time debating on spending $520 for em... Plus i know all the ill side effects, but the kid in me still wants em lol

Thanks guys!

Trust me Zac......you don't want to put headers on. So much of a pain in the *** and the constant maintenance they will need. Exhaust manifold gaskets and collector gasket burning up all the time, leaking or disintegrating. Header bolts coming loose all the time. Burning up numerous spark plug wires. And they'll rust out or you'll drag and bottom out and crush the bottom side of them sooner or later. Go with the manifolds and stainless pipes and save yourself a ton of money and headaches. The performance gain with headers is minimal.

He says he already knows but sometimes you just gotta do it anyway

I had the shumaker tri-y headers on the old newport... Honestly they wern't that bad... The only problem I had with them was the passenger side collector had a leak. But never burned any wires, or had any other problems.. The day I sold the car is when one of the gaskets went.. Right as the kid started it up.. Not my problem! Ha! That car wasn't drove near as much as the monaco though.....

thanks for the link fratzog! Ill check it out when I get home.

Nothing like the sound of open headers..........even in a 5,000 lb sled. LOL!

Some things HAVE TO BE DONE so you don't want to do it anymore.
Remember that time in Tiuana, Bob?
