True story - My brother-in-law was a long-time Chrysler employee, working as parts and service managers, and the Denver parts depot, for over 40 years. He recalls a guy with a '70 Challenger T/A that came in with a rod knock. When the 340 was pulled from the car for a teardown to sort out the noise, they did find two bad rod bearings...and a wrench in the oil pan, from where the engine was built in 1970! The wrench was not the cause of the problem, but my B-I-L said that was the hot topic of discussion in the shop for a very long time!

Oh, and when a bunch of high-performance parts got crushed in 1974 - Hemi blocks, heads, 340 and 440 Six-Pack manifolds, carbs, and lots more,

I recently upgraded my inlet manifold. This is genuinely what I found under the valley gasket!
No apparent damage.
I’m still stunned!!

I have found lots of strange items in unexpected places working on cars... yours is a story to remember... keep that hammer, I might not even clean it.

When my brother rebuilt the 383 in his 300, there were 3 oil pan bolts in the bottom of the oil pan. Never had a problem with it!

A friend of mine's father had a bought a grand prix in the 90s. He noticed a bad smell. Took it back to the dealer. They looked inside the door and found a sandwich. Not something useful like a wrench, but certainly not common.
